what would be a good web site to get some good rods for it? i think im just better off rebuilding the top end not quite sure yet, the motor is just about ready to be pulled , when i got the car it hasent been ran for awhile i only payed 400 for it and the guy who i had bought it from put a new cluch and new head gasket on it and he drove it for like 100 pluse miles and it started knocking really bad so when i got it i put a new battery in it and started the beast up and like he said it had a really really bad knocking to it and i reved it up and it goes away just a tad bit but its still really bad thats why i think i should just rebuild it and also it has 272,000 miles on it ... what do you guys think i should do ?? THANKS SOOOO MUCH

Thats not what statistics say. But anyway you will still be slow with 200hp hauling 3500lbs. You still will be in the range of 0 to 60 in 8 seconds. Even a newer v6 mustang will beat you.
And wow that is alot of miles. I'm glad to see another 7m run so long. I would ceratinly say a rebuild is order as well as alot of other things. If you stick with the ge and it is rebuildable. I would work on suspension next which probably needs some care to. Last edited by 907mge; 01-11-2011 at 03:52 AM. |

The devil you know..... I'd always prefer to rebuild the engine I have (if possible) versus throwing in one I know nothing about. If I want to build one to have ready to swap during the weekend, then I'll buy a core and build it and drive my car while the new engine is being built.
ARP makes good fasteners, but the head bolts aren't THAT much better that the TOYOTA head bolts... they're even reusable like the ARPS, just measure them and inspect for pitting and scaling. Same torque 75ftlbs.... ARP studs are in a whole other class.

is better then the one you don't.
I guess i should of said, " but you will still want to replace the seals and do compression testing among other things."
