Loss of power and funny smell from exhaust

I just bought a 87 7mge supra, changed the oil, and flushed the coolant. It was driving great but all of a sudden i lost tons of power and noticed a funny smell from my exhaust. I thought it could be the catalytic converter but im not really sure. Any suggestions? :/

Bad cat will smell like sulfur dioxide.... rotten eggs (and BAD). Coolant will smell like a gross, sweet syrup.

Its a bad smell so im gonna go with cat, any problems with just gutting it? other than legality.

sorry, not an expert with cars. but at least im start enough to ask before i start riping stuff apart.
