So im blew my 7mge Motor
 

Hey so i blew the motor in my 1988 toyota supra 7mge while i was out havin abit of fun with her, and now im either looking into rebuilding the motor and was wondering what it has cost some of you guys in the past and how much you recommend to bore over the pistons and what not. also i was looking into gettin a 7mgte since i cant seem to find any 7mge kickin around. so i was wondering if i could simply bolt up a 7mgte motor to my non turbod car without changin the ecu tranny or anything else. just bolt it up and go???? no turbo or anything. atleast not yet.

so if you have any recomendations please let me know, this car is gorgeous and i want her back on the road for this summer. hopefully sooner so it can go in for its airbrushing :) so please give me any sort of advice . itll be greatly appreciated

Well the good old turbo on a 7mge comes up again.

well you dont know any of my plans for the airbrush work so i wouldnt be throwing it down. once its done ill probably post some pics. and im not doing any tacky shit. itll look clean. just cheaper to airbrush alot of the car since im shaving the hatch door handles and paint is peeling in a place or two. so im getting the upper half airbrushed

Airbrush is used for touch up work very often... it doesn't always mean someone's getting a nude mermaid in front of a waterfall painted on their hood.... although here when someone says they're getting something "airbrushed" that is EXACTLY what they mean.


Yes, you can drop the GTE in there and run it like a GE. You'll have less power (lower compression ratio) and you'll need to swap a number of parts over from the GE though; These include: injectors, upper intake plenum, flywheel, distributor, N/A spark plugs would be a good idea.... etc.

haha airbrush mermaid :barf:, and on the question of rebuilding the motor you have/size of rebore/costings etc, depends entirely on how bad you blew it, the nature of the blow up (can mean anything from spat cambelt to rods thru the bonnet!) and what other servicable but worn parts you may choose to keep in it...

to be honest if you're on a budget a cheap s/h motor isn't always a good idea since cheap usually means BHG (and possibly a disguised one at that if it's already out/the car's not running) so for my tuppence worth I'd say get the big bits of the motor stripped (head off, drop crank/rods/pistons) and then assess the damage & decide if it's better to rebuild or swap.

Even if it turns out to be scrap metal you havent lost a huge amount of time & will probably get more when you weigh the bits in if they're stripped and sorted into iron/steel/ally...

There comes a point when the engine is just so much scrap.

I don't get it man. how much do you have to abuse these things to blow em up? We have an 86.5 and an 88. Both are used in 24 hours of lemons racing. essentially 2 days 8 - 10 hours per day of roadracing. we run the snot out of these things - and they never burp, don't burn oil - nothing - all they do is run. The engine in the 86 had 150K miles on it - we redid the head gasket - and since then it has run 7 races - over 4500 miles of racing - with absolutely no issues - we shift it at 6K - heel and toe it to match RPM - and the damned thing just keeps running. we assume it has to break sometime - but so far - this thing is amazing.
