So im blew my 7mge Motor
Hey so i blew the motor in my 1988 toyota supra 7mge while i was out havin abit of fun with her, and now im either looking into rebuilding the motor and was wondering what it has cost some of you guys in the past and how much you recommend to bore over the pistons and what not. also i was looking into gettin a 7mgte since i cant seem to find any 7mge kickin around. so i was wondering if i could simply bolt up a 7mgte motor to my non turbod car without changin the ecu tranny or anything else. just bolt it up and go???? no turbo or anything. atleast not yet.
so if you have any recomendations please let me know, this car is gorgeous and i want her back on the road for this summer. hopefully sooner so it can go in for its airbrushing :) so please give me any sort of advice . itll be greatly appreciated thanks Kyle |

Well the good old turbo on a 7mge comes up again.

well you dont know any of my plans for the airbrush work so i wouldnt be throwing it down. once its done ill probably post some pics. and im not doing any tacky shit. itll look clean. just cheaper to airbrush alot of the car since im shaving the hatch door handles and paint is peeling in a place or two. so im getting the upper half airbrushed
|
Airbrush is used for touch up work very often... it doesn't always mean someone's getting a nude mermaid in front of a waterfall painted on their hood.... although here when someone says they're getting something "airbrushed" that is EXACTLY what they mean.
Yes, you can drop the GTE in there and run it like a GE. You'll have less power (lower compression ratio) and you'll need to swap a number of parts over from the GE though; These include: injectors, upper intake plenum, flywheel, distributor, N/A spark plugs would be a good idea.... etc. |
lawl..
chich n chong buy a supra. would look intersting. i could personally care less about how a person paints "their" own vehicle. but i swear to god. if i see any space ships, flames, tribal art or a damn female astec Indian riding a unicorn. im gonna blow your car up. |
haha airbrush mermaid :barf:, and on the question of rebuilding the motor you have/size of rebore/costings etc, depends entirely on how bad you blew it, the nature of the blow up (can mean anything from spat cambelt to rods thru the bonnet!) and what other servicable but worn parts you may choose to keep in it...
to be honest if you're on a budget a cheap s/h motor isn't always a good idea since cheap usually means BHG (and possibly a disguised one at that if it's already out/the car's not running) so for my tuppence worth I'd say get the big bits of the motor stripped (head off, drop crank/rods/pistons) and then assess the damage & decide if it's better to rebuild or swap. Even if it turns out to be scrap metal you havent lost a huge amount of time & will probably get more when you weigh the bits in if they're stripped and sorted into iron/steel/ally... |
So how did you blow the engine, what did you do to your engine?
There comes a point when the engine is just so much scrap. |

eh. probably some knuckle head who doesn't maintain their vehicles.

Hey.. dont knock these guys who blow their engines.. I have 2 of their cars sitting waiting for special lovin'.. and picked 'em up for a song.
I spent 3500.00 on 3 Supras and just had them appraised (as they sit, with no repairs done yet.. for insurance) and they appraise at 2300.00 for the Blue 87 with the seized engine 4200 for the white 88 targa/turbo (it runs fine, just messy interior and quarters rusted) 2850 for the red 90 with the BHG. I was going to take 3 weeks off to fix them all, but then my daughter decided to go get hitched, so I have to spend the money on the traditional 4 camels, 17 sheed and 45 cattle for the event.. so.. they will sit a while longer. Meanwhile.. I rip apart one Supra to find out that a garage is not big enough to store a torn apart car's parts.. lol. Stick with N/A, the engines arent hard to find, hell.. I would probably sell you the engine out of my 87 and you can rebuild it and then just do a swap out (simple enough) or... get a Turbo engine and hunt down the ECU, etc.. for a proper swap and experience the joy. (which is what I plan to do on the NA 87 I have) If the car is the red one I see in your pics you posted, I would go full turbo or sell it to me as is :) |

Cre, so he can make the transfer over to the gte with the ge wiring harness? and the ge computer as well? I was wondering because I was thinking about that as well. |
I've answered this a few times in a few recent posts.. It depends on what specifically you're talking about. If you're asking if you can use the engine minus the turbos then I've answered it in the first reply. If you're asking if you can run a full GTE setup, turbo and all, on GE electronics then the answer gets quite complicated... to put it simply or safely: If you have to ask, then *no*.
The short of it is that you can run just about any I6 engine with the electronics from almost any other I6 engine... but you need to ensure that any variables that system may not be aware of are addressed (such as using the electronics from a system not built for a turbo on an engine which has one). |
heres one
