starter

so here we go.

i started my project with auto to manual swap on a 1986 7m-ge
i decided it would be less frustration to remove the engine harness from the engine, pull the engine, and pressure wash both engine and bay, and start fresh with the 5speed.

im now at the end a week later (only get to work on it @ night cuz of my job)
and somehow i forgot to label where i removed the 4 grounds from near the starter.....(im rather pissed @ myself...)
2 are from the engine harness, and the other are the positive and negative terminals from the battery.

so far this tells me nothing...
http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Librar...Section=ST&P=3
also i have a haynes manual, and all it helps with is how to check your cables for rips tears and cuts... so thanks i can now use my eyes...

can any one help me...
maby someone will want to get under there car and look for me, just let me know for both terminals

and it would be good to know where the 2 grounds from the engine harness go....(both leading through the intake manifold and passed the injectors to somewhere near the starter...)

thanks a million in advance

look at the intake plenum, there are one or two unused studs that they connect to... if I'm thinking of the same grounds that you are.

CanadianBak'inSupra 08-07-2010 12:06 AM

ill try that thanks.
but where should my negative battery terminal lead to?

The tail of the ground which goes to the block has its own boss right by the rear two bolts for the A/C compressor bracket; The other half grounds to the chassis on the wheel well.

On my turbo I think one of the main earth leads went to the bolt that holds the steady bar onto the plenum, whether that was standard or just put there by the previous "technician" that's where I put it back & it works fine from there too...

quote "2 are from the engine harness, and the other are the positive and negative terminals from the battery."
------------------
There are 4 ring terminal earths that bolt to the lower plenum stud as cre said ,but just one point- the battery + cannot have an earth as that would = a dead short...

the thick red batt.+ with a ring terminal, which is the only battery + with a ring in that area goes to the starter. (theres a smaller ign + with a spade connector that activates the solenoid too, don't forget that, I did!!!)

Didn't even notice that two were the battery wires... them missed that one was the positive.

The ground goes where I said previously... The batt goes to the starter (as MA70-3.0GT) said. The other two go to the one stud on the lower intake plenum which is not connected to the upper.

Sometimes not having one to run out and have a look at is a pain....

CanadianBak'inSupra 08-09-2010 12:54 PM

put the two grounds from the engine harness onto the lower intake plenum.
and i put positive on starter and negative on suport bar for upper intake plenum.
all works fine thank you guys!
