Neeed Helpp..

SO i jus found out the worst news i could possibly get today and that is my copression is low and my head gasket blown. I jus bought this car last week. i guess thats what i get gor 1200 even for that i got ripped off but oh well now. So i need to know what i should do its my first car . I want to work on it and stuff tho and i kno its gonna be quite alot of money to do so. but i think i can do it. What do u guys think i should do?

shoulda joined a little sooner.. BHG is the #1 cause of supras being sold..

factory defect with low torque specs on the HG..

fix it and torque it to 75 or take it to a shop and have them fix it.. make sure you torque it to 75..

Are you sure it's definitely blown & you're not just being told that by someone who knows you'll hear it's common and just take their word for it?

Not saying it's unlikely as it is the main cause of 7M engined cars being unloaded onto inexperienced hands. Who did your compression check, was the car thoroughly warm, all the spark plugs removed and at WOT and with as-new (and correct size) battery when the check was completed? All these factors can give a false low reading.

Also are there any other symptoms, there will usually be one or more symptoms that are a dead giveaway & if you search the site you should be able to more definitely diagnose/rule out the BHG.

That said, it's not the end of the world if it is blown and providing you repair according with the sound advice from trusted forum members here in conjunction with the TSRM http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Librar...spx?S=FI&P=101 you should have no further worries once it's done & correctly torqued down to 75lb

EDIT-: Also, post your exact model, year, US/EUR/JDM spec, engine type (found on front right of timing belt cover) in your signature as this will help people give you more specific advice as you progress with the car. ;)

questions that need answers??

So when i was first buying the car the enngine sounded bad cuz when i turned it on it made lik a pop every 5 seconds and when it was being drivin it would occaisilly nudge u while driving (lik u keep gasing and breaking) , and the reason why it does that supposely is cuz the catalyic converter got messed up cuz it almost got jacked by someone. so do u think it might be the engine thats bad or the CC that makes sound that it makes and does what it does?? also i got it looked at and it said my compression is low do u think the catalyic converter has a part in that too??

Your CC wont cause low compression. Sounds like the head gasket is on it way out. More then common on these cars. If you are getting it for a great price could be fixed for id say min. 2k with you doin all the labor.... my 2 cents

In relation to the OP's question about the cat, no it cannot affect compression tests (if done correctly with all plugs removed) as it's simply part of the exhaust & the compression test is within the engine's cylinders.

a crushed cat could block the exhaust & cause loss of power but I think we need to go into a little more detail of what symptoms you're getting & also check back on the things I previously mentioned.

What were the figures you were given for the comp. tests, was there a set of "dry" and "wet" figures given?

Engine, N/A? Turbo? Model year? US/JDM etc? please help us to help you ;)

please try and keep things to one thread for the moment, admittedly the original did start to get hijacked but cre has seen to that & I'm trying to offer you help in that original thread, but you need to hit this methodically & not post different threads for each (possibly linked) symptom... :wavey:

Is it Possible???

The repair tech recommends a new engine, is it possible if i take my engine out and work on it and see whats up with it i could fix it? He said when he turned it on that it was rough and like i said before in a earlier thread when u turn on the car it makes a backfire noise and drives like ur beaking and pressing the gas (like thiers bumps in the road)

MA70-3.0GT 08-07-2010 11:29 AM

perhaps we could ditch this "tech" of yours that seems to want to sell you things (mainly engines!!!) and maybe do what I suggested more than once, I.E. hit the problems METHODICALLY and keep to one thread so we can get a hint of what progress/otherwise is being made. And tell us what car you have for a start.

Sorry, last time. :outahere:

I've merged one more of the OP's threads into this one. I'll go through this one and delete anything I think is repetitive or not necessary.

MyFirstCar.... Keep your posts in the same original thread if you're still working on the same problem. Otherwise people will have no idea what you're talking about or what you've already done or asked.
