Tems suspension or no?

Im looking to tune my suspension to stiff street tuned suspension...i was thinking of gettin the tokico struts that work with tems...but ppl with supras tell me im better off ditching the tems and just getting some good shocks like bisten...what are your suggestions?

mirage83 04-20-2010 01:07 AM

Personally I like the TEMS setup, but I'm more interested in a comfortable, smoothly adjusting suspension and ride than the stiff, somewhat harsher ride that's pretty typical when you're more interested in flat cornering.

Just depends on what you're after.

bryanf89 04-20-2010 01:22 AM

yea, im looking to take corners fast...i love the comfortable ride but hate the nose dive from hard breaking and the body going back from hard accel

907mge 04-20-2010 02:14 AM

it shouldn't be doing that unless your struts are really bad or maybe your driving an old crown vic

bryanf89 04-20-2010 03:05 AM

lol i dont know bro but the supra bounces like its on a marshmallow

mirage83 04-20-2010 10:49 AM

Your Tokiko's are shot. Uncontrolled bouncing is an almost sure sign.

bryanf89 04-20-2010 01:34 PM

Im still riding on OEM shocks and springs

cvbikeguy 04-20-2010 04:03 PM

no wonder mine feels like its a soggy noodle

extenze?

bryanf89 04-20-2010 08:17 PM

Lol yea i think the tems was just offered as a luxury option. I heard hks made a modeule that controled tems at any time, but its impossible to fimd

cvbikeguy 04-20-2010 11:09 PM

i dont have TEMS but my shocks are dead

Cameroonski 04-22-2010 02:49 AM

I like the same thing in my supra, fast corners. I dont care much about the comfy ride b/c im used to bouncy and loud from my jeep. Id say ditch the TEMS and get some nice stiff shocks and a lowering kit. if you have the money get the adjustable coilovers... if its not how you like you can loosen or tighten the springs for whatever ride you want, and you always have the option for performance.

TripleC 04-22-2010 02:57 PM

loose the tems as i did and get some coilovers

bryanf89 04-23-2010 02:01 PM

Coilovers would make my car too low...i live in NYC, which is known for rotting streets =[

Supra_Freak_7m 04-28-2010 04:50 PM

I just purchased a set of NEX Adjustable coil-overs on ebay from the ebay store maxspeedpeformance. They cost me $680 and I *think* they had 0'' to 2'' adjustability.

Tokico Illumina II's ( Tems Compatible ) are about 450+ shipped and depedning on how long your suspension has been in poor condition, you'll want to replace the springs too. New springs plus illumina II's cost more than my coil-overs.

One more added benefit of getting rid of tems is it is much easier to find strut tower bars.

One handy feature about the Nex coil-overs i bought is that they keep the ride height adjustment seperate from the spring stiffness adjustment, so you can have stock height with tighter springs. Just make sure if you lower it, you tighten the springs accordingly, because I didnt and now i get pissed every time my car drags on something. Ask Btwilson86

bryanf89 04-28-2010 05:32 PM

lOl man if i get coilovers where i live the whole bottom of my car would be done. I think im going with the tokico blue series shocks with some eibach pro kit lowering springs.

TripleC 04-28-2010 05:33 PM

Dont give anyone crap about bad roads. We all have them. IM from Colorado

I think you misunderstood me, I said you can keep factory height with the coil-overs I mentioned and IMHO its all-in-all better than lowering springs cause it is fully adjustible

Lol dude your worst then a 12 year old on her period. NO DRAMA!:roflwtf:

WTF dude, maybe I didn't read something right but all I'm seeing is people givin you advice on your question.

In any case, this isn't one of those "other" supra forums where I'm gonna tolerate people pickin fights.

Let's keep it polite here.

TripleC 04-28-2010 08:56 PM

bryanf89 04-28-2010 09:11 PM

Lol sorry im still new to these forums. Now im considering the nex coilovers.

TripleC 04-28-2010 09:12 PM

I have Megans and really like how they ride on the street and at the track. Heres them in action
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CL2q0MXY-RA

My Tecikos and Intrax and tems just didnt cut it for aggresive driving.

did you keep the springs stock?

bryanf89 04-28-2010 09:53 PM

@triple C. They seem stiff yet agile. Which megans and with what springs? Also, this might be off topic, but is that the sound of the BOV or the wastegate? I have a ssqv on mines and it sounds nothing like that. Its just makes a whistle sound when turbo kicks in

907mge 04-29-2010 02:17 AM

If you are worried about ride height, you should stay with the stock height. I have Eibach springs with kyb struts and I have to constantly watch where I drive. It is a waste spending money on coilovers(shock and strut come together as one) if you stay at stock height. If you replace the old bushings get new struts and springs(if you choose) as well as some bigger swaybars, you will notice a HUGE difference over the worn out struts you have now.

Adjustable coil-overs have their own springs on them that are matched to the unit.

The ebay store I bought mine from was maxspeedperformance.

bryanf89 - They are megan springs (18 KG and 14 KG i think), and that is my HKS BOV (you like dont you, so do i - theres nothing like that BOV scream)

bryanf89 04-29-2010 07:50 PM

How much psi you running triple C?

TripleC 04-29-2010 07:55 PM

You know i think my gauge is reading a little off but i have it set for 19 PSI but it regularly stays around 17 once the boost spike hits and levels out at higher RPM( i think it is reading 2 pounds less then what it is really at, so i may be closer to 20/21). I am only running 370 CC injectors but that will change before my next event. 440's in the gerage fendrs to roll, diffs to swap. i have a few projects ahead of my next event May 16th

ReelBandit 04-29-2010 08:45 PM

Do you have to go with special shocks when your car has TEMS? When I hit a bump its like I have hydraulics installed.

Yes when you have TEMS your suspension is adjustable. If it feels like you have hydro's then your shocks are toast. Springs could be a little old and bouncy too but it is mainly associated to the Dampening of your shocks.

bryanf89 04-30-2010 12:43 PM

the tems was put there to make the car have a luxury ride...
@triple C, did you opt for the lexus AFM

TripleC 04-30-2010 12:55 PM

I can get a bigger throttle body but i am pritty sure i have a MAP sensor not a MAF. i have not upgraded the stock throttle body.

ReelBandit 04-30-2010 02:56 PM

Ok, so what type of shocks do you guys recommend? Standard gas shocks or....?

TripleC 04-30-2010 03:57 PM

If you have tems i say keep it. i liked the way my car drove when i had my illumina II's and Tecikos. it just wasnt drift worthy. I had to much body roll. For the daily this setup was legit

ReelBandit 04-30-2010 04:07 PM

I dont mean to sound repetitive, I would like to keep the TEMS, but I dont know what to do to fix the problem. Do I replace with standard shocks or do I have to find some that work with TEMS? If so where would be a good place to start looking for shocks that work with TEMS? Thanks for your help.

TripleC 04-30-2010 04:12 PM

you have to find tems compatable shocks. they just have a top adjusting screw that the TEMS controlers actually twist. Look up TEMS when you search for Supra Shocks. i think the Illumina's are 450 from horsepowerfreaks. Look skip all this junk get some coilovers and be done with it. YOu will end up spending around 700 to get a new(er) setup when you could have spent 200 more and got yourself some coilovers and been happier. tems has 3 settings - Megans 32 ... you make the call

bryanf89 04-30-2010 11:56 PM

yea ditch the tems if your loking to run your supra to the next level
