Default The car for me?

Hi All,

First off, what a nice forum, the UK forum is impossible for new owners to post with out donating money first!

I'm sitting on the fence of supra mk3 ownership at the moment. I have had a mk3 n/a about 5 years ago and didn't have a single problem. The only reason I sold it was because I was some what skint at the time!

I currently have a fiat coupe 20vt which i'm not getting along with and would like to go back to some Jap and RWD so im thinking mk3 turbo.

Problem is I have a driving holiday soon and I do a lot of motorway trips and i'm not sure how well a 16+ year old car is going to cut it.

Is it unreasonable to expect a old mk3 supra to keep up with the day to day demands of work and play?

Convince me i'm doing the right thing!

there has been a ton of posts on this subject. just search for "new supra" or something similar and you can see the pages and pages of feedback.

it basically boils down to.. can you perform general maintenance on the vehicle? and is the vehicle in question up to par so to speak.

main problems with mk3's are the low torque spec from factory. do a head gasket change and torque them down to 75 lbs for bolts. 85 for studs and you have a good robust engine on your hands.. (7mgte speaking)

As above really, mines 20yrs old now but the engine may as well be factory fresh so it depends entirely on the car you buy mainly, also your level of expertise/knowledge (easily researched now youre here) whether it's a viable proposition.
I'd say go for it, buy the right example & you can't go wrong especially if it has a recent hg by someone who knows the score re torquing.

P.S i.m.o higher head torque is better within reason & thats why i went to 90 on stock bolts.
P.P.S. Arrgh i hate replying on a mobile, cant see wtf ive written so far!
