Shimming the wastegate is a bad ideal, you limit the gate's ability to open as much as it is designed for... I'll let you guys search why that's bad.
If you're dying for more boost Google DIY MBC and build a "grainger MBC" for $15. Also, be CAREFUL when upping the boost! Fuel cut is a safeguard, but it's not a 100% guarantee that you won't kill your engine.
