Default R154 - How difficult to rebuild?

I know my R154 will need to be rebuilt sooner or later, thrust washer should be upgraded, and synchros need to be replaced. I figure the whole thing should be overhauled if I'm going to do it right. Is this a difficult job? What tools are needed? Is it worth doing it myself, or am I better off taking it to a trans shop?

Thanks,
Trevor

When it comes to transmissions I personally leave them to those who truly know what they're doing. A lot of times there are special tools (read: expensive if available at all) and a lot of details that I have little real experience with.

Agreed, take it to a shop. I wouldn't risk doing it myself and having something fail catastrophically because I didn't realize how critical a certain spacing was or something along those lines... It'd just be my luck.

Thanks for the responses! I have no prior experience working on these, so I think I'll be taking it to my local trans shop to get it done right. There are times where it pays to have a professional do the job, and this definitely looks to be one of them.

Thanks again!
