do you guys yank out the AC in your cars?
I just got mine and the fucker weighs in at 3620

i am in south texas, ac is a must, there are other things you can take out that add alot of weight that dont affect comfort.

I doubt it weighs over 3000 pounds.

So, how much can an AC possibly weigh?

The guy who sold me my Supra told me he ran the AC all the way over to deliver the car to me. He was attempting to portray how good it worked, all I could think is "My God man, why would you run the AC?! Why put that much unnecessary stress on an 86.5 engine!" I dunno, I tend to baby my rides...

At most i think the unit would weigh 125lbs.... so really dont lighten it too much

I heard somewhere that ever 100lbs is a tenth at the drag strip, but I'll take that tenth to not sweat my %#^% off....

at most 35 to 40 pounds really what parts do you have?a/c compressor,a/c heat exchanger,and lines,125 lbs for an a/c is a bit large don't you think,the damn thing woud take up half the engine bay alone.yes you can remove the system from the vehicle without adverse affects.wanna stay cool in your supra,100mph ought to solve the problem,just roll the widows down.

it's not really the weight of the a/c thats helps when you yank it out .
it's the power thats reclaimed by not being having to turn the a/c compressor , even when the a/c is not "on" it requires some power to turn the pulleys .
i'd yank the PS if the thing was easier to turn at low speeds

yep as far as fliuds go you got her nailed,that stuff is the best.

I would be more concerned as to whether the car could handle the extra heat generated by the A/C. As far as I know, know one races the car with the A/C on. The drag caused by the pulleys are so minimal as to almost be non existant. Now the A/C being on is another story and the further you wind up the engine the more pressure that builds up in the A/C system and more horsepower drag.

If you want to cut weight there are better ways to go, but if it never gets hot where you live then take it out! Find a different rear end gear for the car and put better cams in it. I still can't believe that the intake goes from a beautiful oval shape in each of the intake ports, to a 3 inch hole to suck air in. Never understood why no one ever built a better system for that part. A triple Webber setup would make that engine fly!

Check out the Supramania site and figure out what they do to make power. Removing the A/C is last on their list unless they are looking for a tenth of a second.

Very very few people remove power steering, but it frees up a LOT of power because pumping hydraulics takes a lot of work. Hell, if I could get a good normal rack and pinion, very dependable electric water pump, ditch the A/C and get an electric fan, I'd only be running the alternator, and it would SCREAM.

But...I don't drag race, and if I did, the supra wouldn't be my choice because of how heavy it is, it's a luxury sports car...

I havent had PS in my car for months, and i dont think it feels like much of a difference power wise. The car isnt hard to drive with manual steering. I deliver pizza in it and i do fine lol. Plus, It realllly improves the feel handling wise. You can feel it getting loose, and...i dunno hard to describe but its fun on the highway and through twisty roads. Just stop being a nancy boy and take the ps pump out. JK. But it isnt hard, just u-turns suck. I just plan all my parking so i have to backup, cause its real easy to steer when your going back. And with the AC thing, Think of how much a house AC weighs. Probably like 60 lbs. And they cool off a volume much bigger than the cockpit of a car.
