Default stereo in 88

My son and I, limited knowledge I admit, are trying to install a new radio and amp and subs in his car and can't seem to get the amp to kick in. Is there a factory amp in this car? if so where is it and if I unhook that will we be able to get the aftermarket amp to work? thanks, "dad in need"

there shouldnt be, try checkin all the wires again and making sure the ground is in correctly. If that doent work then bring it somewhere to have them check it out. if there nice they wont charge you anything just for checkin it out. Or change the fuse's

do you have the remote wire in the amp more people just think its for the remote (if you have one ) it starts the amp when the stero turns on therefor giving it power and if that don't work make sure the power cable doesn't have a break in it some where

On the UK model the amps are under the passenger seat, not sure about the US.

I would leave the stock amp hooked up if I was you, it's good to power your speakers through your deck. Your other amp will then just be purely for your subwoofer then. Thats what I did. I would download the wiring diagram and make sure you have all your wires connected properly to the deck. It sounds like it was just the remote wire though, previously mentioned.
