i just picked up an 86.5 non turbo, it drives alright, but now it dosent want to run, i mean when i start it i have to stay on the gas for a few or it will not keep running, after awale it seens to idle out and run OK but then it starts to chug, it idles down to 500 or so then reves up too 1000, and keeps doing this, when driveing its a little slugish when this is happaning, around 3000rpm, any one have this problem? i was thinking the IAC system this things runs might be stuck but im just unshure working with this car.........someones changed the 4th spark plug and wire, not sure why or how long ago, but i was hoping my scaner would hook up to the PCM/ECM/ECU but i dont have the hook up..........i never thought i would own a 86 Toyota, any help or ideas would be great to hear.

BTW when its chuging i unhooked the IAC and it still kept chugging..........weird

have you checked all of your spark plugs?when i first had my supra(before i swapped in a 1jz)it had a 7m-ge engine, one day it started doing exactly what you describe,i was inexperienced at the time and didn't even hesitate to take it to my buddies shop.he discovered a badly damaged spark plug, meaning that the engine had basically been firing on only five cylinders instead of six making the engine chugg, check the plugs(i know most are under the throttle dody, wack place)if it is desrtoyed replace it and see what happens.make sure to check all of the pugs.if this helps let me know.if pluggs are routinely breaking something very bad is afoot.

being a mechanic, i figured i better get down to fixing this..........i pulled the throdle body off and replaced all the plugs with NGK G-Force plugs, i replaced the wires........i pluged the (Cold Air fuel injector) back in ( why it was unpluged is not known yet!!!!!!!!!!) and it seems to run well, and have lots of power, i guess ill have to figuer out the rest as i move along, but on the bright side i have a tuned up Supra.

Cold start injector could have been your problem all along. I know I was having problems with mine coming on becuase the vacuum lines that go to the thermastat where messed up, and it didn't want to start at all...
