I have had a 1990 turbo for a couple of years now but it has never ran right. I took the turbo out with the exsaut manifold and replaced the manifold studs because they were striped out and put it all back together right (hopefully) The car starts allright but it dosent like to idol. once it warms up it does allright but if you rev it up at all it will drop down below 400 rpms and cut out. It also wont go above 20mph on the road. I took it to a shop to have it diagnosed and they said that all the electrical checks out but the thermastat was stuck closed. So i replaced it and it still does the same thing to me. The other problem is that the check engien light isnt on either. I like to think that i know something about imports but not allot and need to get a little kick in the right direction to get me started on this car. If you have any ideas or sugesstions please leave them it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

it may be the throttle possition sensor malfunctioning,or it could be as easy as a throttle butterfly set screw.sounds like one of the two, there is also an idle air controle valve somewhere i beleive, could possibly be vacume loss, check that also if possible.i'm outa ideas, maybe poodles can shed some light?

won't go above 20mph? sounds like it's stuck in limp home mode somehow

does the check engine light come on when you start it? it's supposed to, if it doesn't the light is blown, removed, or something major is wrong.

Could be a a number of things. Since it's a turbo car it complicates things a bit since it can be EGR, turbo leak, vac. lines, idle air control, ect...

It might have some stored codes, pull the codes and see. Could also be no fuel getting to the engine, fuel filter and pump could be the cause. Man, I'm outta ideas on this, but it sounds like it's in limp home mode from something, so you should have a code in the ECU...
