Cool I want to know what I need to take my N/A and turn in into a turbo

I have an 87 Supra with the 5spd. I have nothing done to it yet as far as performance goes and I KNOW I am going to want to have a turbo on there. So if anyone knows of a turbo conversion kit or the details involved please help me out here.

First, you are far better off buying a engine/transmission whichever you need to get, than to convert a engine that was not setup for the application you impose to it. Second, you need to state your mechanical skills, do you think you can hoist a 900 pound block of metal into the air, and replace it. Third, if you don't have the facilities to do the work yourself, then hire it done, you most likely will double or even triple your costs for this. Fourth, you should not attempt it, if you know nothing of what you are getting into.

yea you are better off getting a stock turbo 7mgte, if thats the route you are going to go, because its alot of work to turn an n/a into a turbo, and if you dont have the skills necisary to do the swap, your lookin at around anywhere from 400-700 to have someone swap it in, and since the trannys are different lengths, you will have to change the drive shaft to one out of an r154. start getting some money together,

Thirded, bit of a pipe dream, sorry mate.

Best bet would be to buy a new car, that is turbo. Sell your NA car. The price differance would be far far smaller than the cost of a conversion.

Otherwise buy a 7MGTE drop it in, should take no more than half a day, so hire the crane to do it.

Not to sure on why you'd need a new Dshaft tho? Automatic and manuals have different lengths, But the 7mge and gte block would sit in the same position and have the same bell housing, so i don't see why that'd require a new dshaft, also doesn't the R154 have a differant spline count and aren't they a differant length to the W5* boxes? so even if the dshaft need replacing (which im pretty sure they don't) a R154 dshaft wouldn't help.

EDIT: I'm assuming the 87 has the W58, which i'm pretty sure they do, only differance between GTE and GE is the flywheel sizes, ones 9" the other is 9 1/2"

I have done this conversion about 10 times for myself a couple buddies, and guys who wanted to know. It can be done and if you look around and do your research it wont break the bank.

If you have questions send me an email, I can give you some tips.

what may be considered "easy" for others dont mean its going to be easy for you.but the only way your going to get better at it or even have an idea of what your doing is to do it.so if you really wanna get your hands dirty then piece it together and roll up your sleeves.if you really dont want to be bothered then just buy a 7mgte.consider that your N/A motor has to be pulled and the new motor installed.you gonna do that or have the money to get it done?(make sure its done right!!!) ya got some things to think about but when its all said and done your going to have a fun toy.

I agree with RedSupra 110% just do not think it will be an over the night project. And really study up on everything you do. Take before and after pics so incase you need to go back. And do yourself a favor and "search" for answers.

Question you will have have been posted on this forum and other Supra forums. Trust us that the answers are there, some will be a "you cant do that" But many times you will see someone who has, and have been successful.
