tsupranami Intake Join Date: Jun 2008 Location: Washington Posts: 32	California models require a small resistor to be wired into the EGR wiring plug to fool the ECU into thinking the EGR is still there. It will show the Check Engine light and store a fault code if the EGR is removed and there is no resistance in the system. Non-California cars don't care whether it is hooked up or not. I've had mine disconnected for several years now, with absolutely no ill effects. My buddy has the same car (89 7MGTE), but his was a Cali car, so his check engine light came on when we ditched his EGR. We googled a fix somewhere, got a resistor from Radio Shack, and fixed it all up, also several years ago.
