Default Why 1Jz-GTE?

Well it seems like alot of people have or are swapping there 7M-GTE to a 1Jz-GTE. This is probly a stupid question but why? Look at this i got this off Wiki so ya...

2.5L 1Jz-GE 200 hp at 6000 rpm and 185 ft.lbf at 4000 rpm.

Compaired to the 7M-GE

3.0L 7M-GE 200 hp at 6000 rpm and 196 lb·ft at 4000 rpm.

Isnt the 7M Better?

With Turbos
2.5 L 1Jz-GTE TwinTurbo 280 hp 272 lb·ft

3.0 L 7M-GTE SingleTurbo 230 hp 250 lb·ft

Sure the 1Jz-GTE has 50 more hp and 32 more lb·ft but is it really worth the cost of a new engine? Wouldnt it be cheaper and easier just to buy a better turbo for the 7M-GTE?

I brought up this topic because my 88 Supra has 170,000 (KM NOT MILES EH) on her now so the HG will blow soon and i'm wondering if i should just screw the 7M-GTE with its blown head gasket and get a 1Jz or rebuild the engine/turbo i have and add a few mods.

Cheaper route would be just rebuild the 7M head gasket changes are not hard, but they are difficult. (hope that makes sense) But then the mods you want to add will add up the costs quick. I think the engine change is due to aftermarket. Parts for the 1JZ are easier to come by and probably a bit cheaper in the long run. The 7M is just like any other engine, build it right and it will last forever. I guess it comes down to what you want out of the car. 400HP, stick the 7M. 1000HP get a 1JZ. I have a celica with a 20R in it. Common swaps are the 4AGE and 4AGTE. Both engines are a bit better due to the fact that speed parts for the 20R are almost non-existant. When you do find them they are; 1. Used and therefore take a bit of work to get them up and running and 2. Even used they tend to be very costly. Swapping in a newer engine is much easier and cheaper in the long run due to support and parts. This debate goes all the way back to Flathead VS Small Block Chevy.

I'm seventeen im not going to be able to handle 1000Hp lol 400 would be good, would be just enough to hold my own. Here in BC we have a little problem with Skylines and Stangs, there kinda starting to piss me off. Idiots in there shitty R32 skylines (Not the GT-R's those are sick cars) think there so cool rolling up to a light and trying to race a Z06.

1jz is generally more reliable and can handle lots of power without any internal modification

7mpower.com the 1jzgte is more for track racing. but if you want a great street car. stick with the 7m. just my 2 cents.

1jz for sure. Better tech, new design, stronger internals, smoother power, better for daily driving. Ditch the 7m if you can and never look back.

Just answering honestly. 7m's cost alot of money to make solid. 1j is far superior in terms of dd, and bpu upgrades.
