Myself..... I have only played with the 7m.....its strong and reliable under 500hp...

If your car is in nice shape and origanl from a stand point of value the 7m rebuilt right might bring more money in the long run...as there are fewer and fewer all orignals left...

but as stated the 1j is newer engine.. better built from factory then the 7m was...

But if in all honesty you want to swap it and really hold value and desirablity of car... 2j is the only way to go...:} everyone has done the 1j swap because people dont seam to beable to build a 7m to hold up..

If all you want is 400hp then personaly id stick to the 7m...thats just my opinun

My cars an 88 BONE STOCK turbo check the pics it the nicest stock pre 89 u will see. If it was a 89 or new i would swap but i think theres to much work in putting the 1jz in. No point in wasting a perfectly fine for now 7M-GTE. Maybe down the road if i ever want to swap ill get a cheap 89 N/A (There like $1500 in Canada) and swap that.

I'm with you Ethan. I say keep the 7M-GTE. It's your first car and it comes with a turbo in it. I just got a 90 N/A and I'm considering getting a 7M-GTE or a 1JZ-GTE. I don't have money for a swap yet, but when I do, I'm leaning toward the 1JZ because I want reliable 300-400hp turbo power, and being that mine has over 205K MILES (WOOOOWWW!) on it, it's the perfect swap candidate. It's still running so I can drive it until the HG blows (hopefully after I'm ready to swap). But there's some other threads that talk about -and show - the insides of both turbo motors and It's a toss up depending on where u buy it and how much u pay for it. They also say it's best to find a whole front clip, which costs more than the motor itself of course. So u may be better off with the one u already have...at least until u crave more power. If mine was a turbo I would if it was in good condition.
