Default 1986.5 Supra MKIII

Hello Guys, Hey I should have gotten on board here along time ago,I found the answers to many of my questions regarding my car by just searching the forums here, certainly there is a wealth of info.anyway I saw this car[SUPRA]sitting along a side street in my town one day with a F/S sign in the front window. I took the phone# down and after about a week or so I went and called the owner and we met up later for a test drive.I had never driven a car like this before, most of the cars I had owned in the past were detroit muscle. well I was impressed, lots of power, great ride, body very nice, new [decent]repaint from the original red to darker gray with the original grey interior, dirty but complete. I thanked him and then said goodbye for almost a year. come spring the car was now up in the owners driveway, still available.well I said what the heck and went up to inquire again regarding the car, he had had no other offers[well none he would accept] so I made him one and I got the car. I must have spent the better part of 3 weeks cleaning/detailing [QTIPS!] the interior I cleaned it to the nines, it was dirty but now it really looks like new, ditto also with the body and the engine and bay and new Bridgestone POTENZA Zs went on the stock rims.I finally drove the car almost a month to the day after I bought it. only trouble I have had with the car was the alarm system. I would drive it and then park it only to come back find I couldn't start it. the security/computer was shutting down the juice to the starter. it still happens now and then but for some reason not as frequent now???????? [I did spray some contact cleaner into the drivers door keyhole so maybe dirty contacts?] and when it does I just open then lock the drivers door wait a minute and I'm good to go,this resets the computer. [I found this out on the forum BTW so,THANKS!] I have been driving the car out now and then last and this summer [I never drive it in the rain or winter] and it always gets doubletakes from other people, its a very uncommon car around here,I'm in a small town and I have the only one, well I take that back, there IS a white one around here, never really get a good luck at it, but it is seldom seen, least by me. [I have seen it out only twice since I have bought mine so..........] anyway I look forward to being part of the group here, and I do enjoy owning this great car.

Cool

i think the very first thing you should do is re-torque the head bolts.
factory specs call for 55lbs . everyone here will agree that 55lbs isn't going to cut it .
get your hands on a torque wrench and sock em down to at least 75lbs .

keep close watch on the coolant levels especially the over flow bottle up front ,drivers side.
looks like a window washer re- fill bottle

Default Supra Tips

Hello,I know about the bottle/overfill tank, cooling has not been a problem, car runs the middle of temp gauge or below even on really warm days crusing around town or on the highway. I have been using the Toyota red antifreeze as did the previous owner during the time he had the car. I flushed out the system really well shortly after I got the car, filled it and burped it, all A-OK so far [I know where your going with this......... the dreaded plague of all MIIIs.......... the BHG] in the time I have had it I have probably put 2,000 miles on the car,as far as the torque spec. [75 LBs.] I'll do that this weekend.I appreciate the advice. Thanks!
