it looks like the VSV to me
it would be located on the driver side below the intake manifold MK3 TSRM On-Line and here MK3 TSRM On-Line

thats the egr vsv, iirc they have different part numbers, meaning they arent the same part, dont get the two confused. maybe tag one somehow to so you know which is which
