Default damn toyota!

they charge wayyyy to much for gaskets. $104 for two turbo gaskets and oil pipe gaskets? that sounds a bit high to me. but maybe not to you guys that have been working on cars longer then i have been alive. ha. but, my question is, that freys auto really messed up my car and striped the hole where the stud for the exhaust manifold goes. can i helicoil that hole and oversize the bolt a little bit? or would i have to tap it out and get a new bolt/stud? which way sounds better?m

I think I would try the helicoil. I've used them many times and have had good results. They tend to back out on you when you try and remove the nut on that stud, but they hold good. When I had my head work done the machine shop had to repair a couple of holes that had stripped out. They used some type that had to be pressed in. So far they are working great and they look more sturdy.

Good Luck,

Mark

yes toyota gaskets cost a lot, but they are made from good material. Buy a generic one and you have a piece of paper in the shape of your gasket..

As for the manifold stud. Those things tend to pull out easily. Drill it, and helicoil it back to original size and you should be good. Do it carefully though its easy to mess up by going too deep or off center.
