How does flushing the coolant purge air from the coolant system (airlock)?

How does not purging the coolant inhibit your goal?

hi... I could hear the sound of water moving just by reving up while the car is fully stopped....one thing I noted is that the cover of the plastic bottle (coolant overflow plastic bottle?) was opened for about 1-2 days (including while I drove back 3hr back) because I checked the coolant before I bought the car and didn't close back properly...could it cause the air to be trapped in radiator? ...I noted it today morning and I had to fill up a bit of coolant too.....i checked motor oil stick and cap but there's no indication of milky things....
please give some advice...

Well if you have eliminated any possibily of water in your rear quarters or under the spare tire and determined that the sound is coming from the front engine compartment its begining to sound like a cooling system.

Can I suggest that the next morning before you start the car to pop the radiator cap off and check the level of coolant in the rad. Be sure to top off the fluid if it is low, then replace the rad and check the overflow. Top it off as well. After you have performed these tasks check the rad and overflow again in a few days (make sure the car is cold!!).

The rad and or overflow being low would indicate a problem. When your coolant comes up to temp water is pushed from the rad, past the rad cap and into the overflow. After the car cools down that same rad fluid should be forced back into the rad by the suction of the cooling water (cold water takes up less space than hot water). If the level is low on your radiator you are A) leaking or burning coolant B) leaking combustion gas into your cooling system thus displacing water or C) You have a problem with your rad cap and or overflow hose (a nick in the hose would prevent water from returning to the rad after the engine cools down).

A) and B) could both be an indication of a headgasket issue.....

the overflow plastic bottle has a FULL mark...should I fill up the coolant till that FULL level or should I totally fill it up till the coolant really overflows outside?

There's a sensor in the overflow container.

You need to have enough coolant to turn that dash light off.

But in your case. It wouldn't hurt to fill it up because it's going to suck something into the engine from that container. It can either be coolant or air.

You don't know how much air you have in the system at all. The bigger and more loud the waterfall volume. The more air you have.

I'm betting he tells you to fill it up.

You can fill up the coolant over flow to the full level, or slightly above or slightly below. The reference is just nice so that when you compare the engine cold a couple days from cold now, you will have a nice line to compare it to.

The main thing to get out of this that after you fill your rad to full, and have your coolant overflow to a known reference, a few days from now the rad should still be full, and the coolant overflow at the same level you left it at. If the rad is low, or the coolant over flow is drasticaly different (higher or lower) somethings funny....
