Ignition Problem

So heres what i have. after the engine is warm, if i shut it down, it wont start up until a few minutes after it cools down a bit and will normarlly start on the first try. on a cold start it may take 2-4 times untli it starts, but cranks everytime. i recently had the motor rebuilt and some extras(look below) and im running rich.. motor has 3000miles on it and ive changed the oil twice, spark plugs once(were all black) and changed my igition wires. thinking maybe it could be the starter or maybe clean the fuel system. any suggestions?

also at idle, im getting mini backfires/burping sounds/movements. i od have an safc that i may try to put in this weekend

First thing that pops here is the cold start injector is running all the time making it rich (explains the black plugs). Or you have a vaccum leak somewhere. That would explain the black plugs and the miss. Check all of your hoses and then check the cold start injector. Probably not the injector but you never know. But even my 1JZ when it had a vaccumm leak ran like a biatch missing and dieing. When it was cold then it would crank and run fine but when it warmed up caput. Also check the hoses on the EGR because it doesnt open till the car is warm and if it is open all of the time then it will make it hard to start when it is warm.

very possible that it could be the lines. the guy that rebuilt the motor for me said " you dont need all of them" which i guess is kinda true but if the factory put them there then it wouldnt be to bad of an idea to have them connected. i went back thru and found some odd connections that he made and corrected them to what the tsrm says, except for a few of them. where is the cold start injector located?

make sure all your intercooler pipes are all tight, check for pressure leak on them since it could be sucking air after the mass air flow metter ...unmettered air.. it will cause all those same simptoms..
make sure the plastic intercooler pipe that is hidden on the passenger fron fender isnt split in half too..

Burning Pyro 03-21-2008 02:53 AM

yea ive done all that. i have 3" hard piping all around. i think a big factor is that i dont have my bov on yet. ive been waiting for a guy to weld on my flange for my hks ssqv. and i know that if i hit to where im boosting over 10 psi the pipes shoot off. bad written all over that i know. so i just keep the rps under 3200 so i stay in a vacuum state. but im going to put in a new radiator and inter cooler, im jsut waiting for some extra piping to come in

Yeah That probably has ALOT to do with it.

Burning Pyro 03-21-2008 03:02 AM

but still im keeping it in a vacuum so theres not much pressure to be released. unless i get on it and it goes aboe 3200 then theres problems lol. im getting that flange put on 2mr....i think

ok so update. its gettting warmer up here in wisconsin, seems like my supra is getting harder to start. sometimes it will spin the starter once, then crank, then almost go, then finally go. sometimes i have to give it some gas and it will fire up, and popping it into gear and turning the key seems to be starting it everytime when needed. so.... im thinking maybe a timing issue, need a new starter.....or maybe cold start injector???? i know nothing about the cold start injector, but perhaps is the problem. car still burps/hiccups at idle, not bad but every 20 seconds or so gives a little bump and still runing rich. i pilled codes and all i got was a 2, VAF (vain air flow) assuming it has to do with MAF, looking into that. any help would be nice, i want to be able to drive and shut her off knowing i wont have any hassle or embarrasment getting her to start. thanks.

ignition problem

hey im having a similar problem. My car starts...sometimes. in the cold morning sometimes it starts and sometimes it doesnt. Also other times it starts. i turn it off and try again it starts. i turn it off and try again and it may not start. what do you think?:help:

Burning Pyro 04-24-2008 02:31 PM

sorry to say i cant be of any help jsut yet. my supra is officially dead, and ive probably sunk 15000 easily over the past year of owning it. however, im thinking its the starter. im having a new one in the process of being shipped to me. hopefully this is the issue, until then im having fun driving my new 92 Dodge Stealth R/T AWD TT. considering maybe geting the supra back up and then selling it since it would make more sense to build up the stealth. idk yet though. i'll update once i get the starter in, might take a week since im still waiting for it.
