Question ECU question

I need an ECU for my N/A manual... will the one from a turbo work? I think it has to be manual too, but I don't know if the turbo is different.

Nope, you will need one from an NA.

Yeah that would be due to the fuel ratio is diff... but i read somewhere you could use an automatic turbo ecu in a manual there was just something diff with the wiring... can anyone point me in the right direction in finding out how to do that... like the diagram?

Question

I think it has to be '86.5-'88 N/A and manual tranny. Am I wrong?

I believe that you are correct, 86.5-88 N/A ECU. You can use an automatic ECU to make it work, however you will have to do some creative wiring as the Reverse lights won't work when you put it in Reverse, and the clutch safety switch won't work. I believe there may be other issues, but I'm not positive on that

Default Update

I just got an N/A ECU off an '87. However, the letters 7M-GE are red as opposed to yellow like my original ECU. Mine has AE instead of AS like the one I took out. The one I took out is also slightly smaller in size. I've googled 1987 N/A ECU's and they're exactly like the one I just got. Makes me wonder if my ECU was the original to begin with.

Well, lets see what happens.

For your ECU's I am pretty sure you only have to stick to either turbo or n/a, whether it is auto or manual wont make a difference the only thing, that was mentioned above, would be wiring your reverse lights in. As for the neutral start switch, if you always have the habit of depressing the clutch to start you wont have a problem leaving that wiring bit out, just bypass or "jump" it. I did an auto to manual swap on an 88 turbo and the only thing I had to do wiring wise was the reverse lights, everything else worked just as before. Good luck to you.

The ecu's aren't the same. The main ecu should be a silver box and should be the biggest one under the passenger side dash, should also have yellow connectors attached to it. The other comps are smaller and I think most of them are black. I would say that the auto ecu would work, but I am not sure since you said that the guy before replaced the harness to a standard harness. So having that done may mean that you need the standard ecu. Cheers.
