Default Car alarm with a mind of its own

Hello all,

Ive got an 89T Automatic with an alarm that randomly goes off. I goes off when locking the car from the inside, outside, or locking the inside and holding the handle up while closing the door. I think one of these activates the alarm while the other does not but I don't know which is which. I am at the point, as are the people who have to sit and listen to my car alarm, where i just want to rip the dam thing out.
My question comes here...has anybody successfully done this. Being the alarm system is connected to so many other electrical systems throughout the car, I have the haunting suspicion that it wont simply be unplugging a little computer.
Anyways any help will be greatly appreciated

It might also be that some messed with the setting on the box. Check underneath the drivers side dash in the footwell. Cant remember at the moment if its on the side next to the door or underneath the dash. I know of cases of some people that have kicked the box on accident and it actually moved the sensitivity up all the way to the highest setting. Check on that.

thats the weird thing about this...I have owned the car for nearly 8 years doing all repairs myself, sometimes learning in the process. I have never had any problems with the electrical system until this alarm. Not sure if it might be a failed alarm computer or something. To make things worse, the problem is intermittent so it is even harder to diagnose.

hey ravenmaster,
thanks for the referral, I did find some helpful information concerning the wires running to the door lock. I do have the problem where the whole handle insert (if that makes sense) has cracked and kinda wobbles around. Will check the wires there and make sure there isnt any contact or grounding going on there. Gotta fix it anyways. Will let everybody know what the problem is... if I find it. If anybody thinks of anything else, please let me know.

He has a stock alarm system which doesn't use a push button system it disarms when you unlock the door.
Also you might want to get a little more time on the forums before ribbing the older guys....
and by time i mean posts i know you have been here for 6 months or so
