16921 maybe?

Its for the heater hose to bypass the thermostat, otherwise the cooler water from the heater might close the thermostat and cause the engine to overheat when the heater is on. Older 22r engines had that problem until a new thermostat was designed for them.

Nope, click the 16281e and it will take you to the part number. Also gives a list price.

Electronics Parts Catalog

Make sure yours was produced between 1/86 - 5/93, otherwise it might be different, but I bet that's the one you need.

Why didn't you ask the dealership?????
The parts guys are trained to find you the right part and if you didn't give them your vin # you'll be lucky if it is the right one.

You need a how to supra guide for special people.

i took the whole thing out completely with sensors attached to it and went to the dealership, the problem was they didn had that in stock and on the web was like 20 dollar cheaper

wanted to add!
my car does not have the plate where the VIN number is, either its lost or they removed it, i had looked everywhere in and out the car for it but nothing

This statement is silly. Incorrect.

The by-pass system is there to allow the coolant to flow throughout the engine during warm up so that the engine warms up evenly, and does not develope 'hot spots'.

In fact, the thermostat won't even open if hot coolant isn't passed by it.

22r....that's balony info too. (that must be hearsay stuff) I am an ASE and Toyota Master Tech, and was the lead tech at the dealership from 1981-1985.
