im no expert, but how about use gasoline to clean it?

If gasoline was in it and it had grime, I would doubt alot that gasoline would get rid of it. You need to use something more pure like thinners, try and not get the thinners on any plastic or paint. If that doesn't work you can cut the tank in half and use it as a bird bath.

i guess there is no real way to just scrub it out huh? i still need to drop mine and see what i find lol

I have a tank for sale, or you can take it to most radiator / fuel tank shops and they will clean it out for you.
They have special solvents, and I think some use a bead blasting type procedure.
Don't know how much it will cost though.
