Grungy gas tank on my '88

Already drained and dropped it, pulled what was once a fuel pump out, but there's all sorts of nastiness in the bottom of the tank. What's the best way everyone's found to clean the grime and debris out of your gas tank when restoring your Supra's? Thanks for any and all advice.

im no expert, but how about use gasoline to clean it?

If gasoline was in it and it had grime, I would doubt alot that gasoline would get rid of it. You need to use something more pure like thinners, try and not get the thinners on any plastic or paint. If that doesn't work you can cut the tank in half and use it as a bird bath.

i guess there is no real way to just scrub it out huh? i still need to drop mine and see what i find lol

I have a tank for sale, or you can take it to most radiator / fuel tank shops and they will clean it out for you.
They have special solvents, and I think some use a bead blasting type procedure.
Don't know how much it will cost though.

Yes a radiator shop can boil the tank for you.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

After asking around town found a shop that can clean and reseal it if necessary. Won't be cheap (about $100 for the reseal), but that's still a LOT better than the cost of a new one.

"I have a tank for sale,"

What are you asking for it, and do you have any idea what shipping for something that size would be from your location to N. Georgia?

Pretaco 02-06-2008 10:22 PM

I will sell it for $50 + shipping, ground would be about $30, so not much cheaper.

That's a good price.
Someone should buy it for the hell of it at that price.

Some one should buy it!:x:

no pump and no sender.
