Default What should my rpms be at 70 mph?

Hello, newb here with 90 na 7mge automatic and was just wondering what my tach should read @ 70 mph? It currently reads 3k and that seems a little high to me. Also the car shifts hard from 1st to second when cold then seems to get better when the car warms up. Anyone have any ideas?

if you have the same automatic tranny the turbo has...which i think you do (why dont i know that? im stupid. whatever) 65 mph is 2500 rpm on my A340E...3k should be closer to 80 than 70, but its close enough i guess.

well, i know for a fact the turbo and na motors have the same 4sp automatic. don't ask me about speed verses RPM but to me 3k rpm at 70mph sounds about right.

Default 3k?

Hey guys thanks for the response. Seems like at 3k the engine is working hard at cruising speeds. This is my first supra and just want it to see if this was normal. Thanks again.

Default 3k makes my suppie sleepy

~3k for 80mph on a 5speed Turbo.
still, at 3k( 80mph ), my motor sounds are more pronounced than at 2500 rpm. "kinda" hums harder.
Also many cars I've driven change tone at 3k. not just the supra. (rx7, 300zx, etc)
Still, I like the sound of my modified 7mgte, Vband t4, & 3" exh pipes prolonged at 5k in 5th GEAR

What I meant by working to hard at 3k rpm when traveling 70 mph is that the xmission should be doing most of the work. Maybe comparing a supra to a camry is not a fair comparisson. A camry cruises along highways speeds 70mph @ rpms of 2100 saves alot of gas.

Wink My car

The car in question should cruise 77mph @ 3k rpm with the stock 225x50x16 tires. The stock differential gear ratio is 4.3:1

With 245x50x16 (I ran on the back for a year), it was 80mph @ 3k rpm

I suspect you either have smaller than stock tires on the car. OR

You 'lock-up' torque converter is not functioning.

While driving at a smooth, steady acceleration, watch the tach, and feel the shifts. 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, then into lock-up.

The lock-up will drop the rpm about 300r's, and should happen at about 45-50mph. It actually sounds and feels like a slight gear change in mine.

Also, the 1-2 shift in mine is harder than all the rest. been that way for 5 years. I don't like to fix things that ain't broke.
