new intercooler

well i purchased this intercooler http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...B:EOIBSA:MT:11 and i just received it today and yes i do know it has the pipes bent for a nissan but is there a certain way i have to hook it up? thanks

Chambers 11-14-2007 01:41 AM

I don't think there is some special way to hook it all up, but I have a similar problem, I have a intercooler from a Cummins turbo diesel. I'm mounting it somewhat flat so I have to run a few 90's and a lot more tubing to make it back to the throttle body. What I would do is take out your stock intercooler and have a friend hold the new one inplace and see how it looks for where the tubing has to run, then try mocking up the tubes. Hope that helped.

yep it did thanks for your reply

how much work did you have to do to get the pipes to fit? did you need any extra piping? id like to stray from having to pay 500 bucks for a fmic kit fitted to a supra JUST because its for a supra..

Supra2NR 11-17-2007 09:32 AM

if your using the stock intake manifold
your gonna need more than those pipes

west_side_supra 11-17-2007 10:45 AM

well tell me how you route your pipes because i'm running the same intercooler but doing a 3 inch pipe instead of 2.5 just so i can match it with the intake and turbo and the in and out of the intercooler, make a list of all the pipeing items you get and maby some sizes

Supra2NR 11-17-2007 09:40 PM

gt47 is a .70trim and .68 ar right

if it is, were using the setup
except u got a better turbo than me

i tend not to take pics of my engine bay
but imma go take pics later so u can see how i routed my pipes

ok im sorry guys i have written back in a while just been busy putting the pain in the butt intercooler in and now waiting to receive my new lexus maf but all i got to say puttin g in the intercooler was a pain in the but not any easy tak to accomplish it took me easily over 6-9 hours fiddling and moving parts around and tyring things out but now i got it in but its still not perfect i still got some kinks i need to work out i also went with the 3" piping but all i gotta say is stay with 2.5" 3" is just a little to big i was hitting myself for getting 3" hahah but the way i hooked up the intercooler was i put a slighlty bent pipe that came in the kit hooked up to the turbo but i recommend cutting off about 2-3" on the pipe just so everything will fit flush later on the i ran it to a straight pipe to a 90 degree bent pipe into the intercooler then the other side of the intercooler to a 90 degree bent pipe then into a staright piped i cut in half and added a cupling in the middle it was a little to short then i went into a nother slighly bent pipe into the 3000 pipe everything works right now but it really needs some tlc to make all of the sizes correct but ya car still runs like crap right now i think it is all due to my faulty maf sensor the codes i am getting are the maf sensor, turbocharger pressure, and knock sensor but hopefully when i replace my old maf with the new one itll fix my problems lol but ya i will get some pics posted as soon as possible with how i had got it hooked up

see the way i'm thinking of running my 3 inch pipes is from the TB go out straight then do a 90 around the tems, then straight through the bigger hole in front of the air filter then go down into the ic inlet, as for the turbo side, do a 180 or 2 90's go under the radiator then a little straight piece then another 90 then straight with another 90 going up into the turbo. i dont know if there is a way to go under the oil pan but that was another way i was thinkin of doing it. mmm as for the turbo question its a Gt46 : Compressor Wheel - .66 A/R, 48.9 trim Turbine Wheel - 1.05 A/R, 61.9 trim 4.25" inlet, 3.38" outlet T4 flange with V-band i never really got a name for the turbo, but thats what i had hunted down with all of those specs, and i know in the manual it says something like super hybrid, i'm curious how it will spool up

cyanide-is-a-way-out 11-19-2007 01:59 AM

here are the pics of it it still has a lot of wokr i need to do to it lol

Supra2NR 11-19-2007 02:36 AM

are you gonna drive that thing with all the pipes hanging like that

holy crap thats pretty low
my pipes never went lower than my intercooler
or lower than my crossmember for that matter

ever worried about the pipes hitting objects on the ground while your driving
or this concern is out the window

west_side_supra 11-19-2007 03:16 AM

yea that looks way to low for my likeings. i would have ran it under the radiator area at least, but now i'm wondering what are you doing with your oil cooler, i still havnt decided where i want to mount mine. i was thinking of fitting it up in the upper grill.

west_side_supra 11-19-2007 03:34 AM

here is what i'm talking about doing
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...oolersetup.jpg

cyanide-is-a-way-out 11-19-2007 05:31 AM

im not worried how low the piping is i can make it over anything here its burlington hahaha but its not done like i said i still have got work to do on it im just having to take off the toe hooks and such to fit it right

west_side_supra 11-19-2007 06:33 AM

thats sweet that you live out in burlinton, i'm in marysville near everett, you should come down here some time and help out with my motor build :P

Supra2NR 11-19-2007 06:39 PM

ok i dont do this a lot, since i said i dont like taking pics of my engine bay

but imma show you guys this, which i think is a better way to route the intercooler pipes

http://a688.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...e31bf5de9f.jpg
all 2.5" hardpipes painted with ceramic paint, its due for another coat

http://a240.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...19fcfd9c67.jpg

http://a688.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...b0278672a7.jpg

http://a398.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...a693091b0d.jpg

http://a570.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...13c99d6f39.jpg

all the pipes in the engine bay are 2.5"
and the pipes from the intercooler are both 3"
you can see the reducer on the pipe leading away from the engine bay
to the intercooler

not the best looking right now, thats why its called a project
this is what i thought would be a good way to route the pipes when i was doing my car, this way nothing is underneath, thats gonna hit anything when im driving
considering highway races,
and anybody that lives here, knows how many bumps there are on the way to doty road,
im not trying to be a snob, but i might delete these later,

cyanide-is-a-way-out 11-19-2007 07:49 PM

ya west side supra ill come down and helo for shure but i just got a few more kinks to work out in my car again before it is driveable but yeah send me your number or sometin on here but just to let you know im 17 ahha if that means like youd rather me not help but up to you just gimme oyur number and ill hit you up

west_side_supra 11-19-2007 10:53 PM

hmm that way you routed it seem really complex and lots of bends, i'm trying to keep it simple not insane :P

what i'm trying to figure out is why did you cross it when you could have done a straight shot from the TB to the passenger side of the intercooler then go from the drivers side up?

plus i see you relocated your battery and your fan in missing or just cant see it. and is that a cusco oil catch can? and could you not rotate your turbo?

cyanide-is-a-way-out 11-20-2007 12:26 AM

ahha i got my car running perfect once again cleared all engine codes no more haha yay the new maf fixed everything

Supra2NR 11-20-2007 04:40 AM

cuz the other end tank is is on the other side of the intercooler
thats why i had to cross it,
i have two electric fans, a pusher and a puller and yes the battery was relocated to the rear to ruduce weight in front of the car

i chose the bends cuz i want it to be as smooth as i can , i tried to avoid 90 degree bends as much as i can

west_side_supra 11-20-2007 05:55 AM

end tank? what dat?

Supra2NR 11-20-2007 06:17 PM
