I understand

I see, I do want at least an 8" wide rim, and you're saying that +35 +40 is a good setup, I just want something that is right for sure before I spend the big money, there's no supras around i'm in redneckville idaho, so I don't have much to go off of. Also being in small rural redneck towns, the only wheel and tire dealers are small time and don't have much of an idea, they just work on lifted pickups, they haven't ever had to put a lowering kit on a car for instance, so I need your guys' help I will torque my own wheels b/c these idiots don't have a clue.

btwilson86 03-22-2008 04:39 AM

Did a little bit of quick research, and it looks like that a common offset for 8" wide wheels is +30, which should keep that wheel tucked in pretty nice under the car without hardly any sticking out. 7" and 7.5" range between +35 and +40

Thanks

Thanks a lot man, they are on the way :D

Find them at Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels also when they talk about rotating mass, they are absolutely correct. Your stock pulley on your 7M weighs 11 pounds.. the Unorthodox Racing pulley weighs about a pound. It will run about $200 from a store.. look for it on ebay. But reducing any weight on wheels or tires will make huge differences. Just remember that if you change your rim size that you might want to get your speedometer readjusted.. actually I'm not sure if you have to on Supras. Be sure to find out though.

Tell me how long your engine last before the vibrations from the balancer you pulled off. It's not worth the money. If you buy an underdrive pulley your taking off the dampener that keeps your engine from knocking or vibrating too much which will destroy your bearing. Only worth it if its a strictly race or drag car. Buy an underdrive that has a dampener on it... it's about 800 bucks though....

I just got an MK3 and want to put some new wheels on it.

Will 19's fit comfortably without any rub or sticking out too much?
The tires would be 225/35/19.

Any help is really appreciated. Thanks!

Spudboy 01-26-2009 03:02 PM

A lot depends on what you do or plan on doing with your car.
AND
Do you have stock suspension with stock ride height?

If you're still stock suspension and height those wheels and tires should fit. If you're lowered at all I would not do it.

I run 17" 235/45's all around with TEIN flex coilovers lowered as much as I can. No problem with the width but I do bottom out on my front fenders under hard bracking into a corner on a road course. I could actually go a little wider and maybe 18" in the back.

The big wheel with very low profile fad is just that...a fad. But not usually the best performance, and ride comfort sucks. Real performance tires have more sidewall to give the tire better strength under lateral g's.

But, if you just want to look cool and cruise around that 19" stuff should work. The width at least is fine and my guess with stock factory set-up height should be OK too.

Go to this link (or others) to punch in tire size numbers and compare.

SO I ended up getting 225/45/16 Konig Traffik wheels all the way around.

Is there anyway to change the speedometer so it reads correctly?

I believe those tires are the about the stock size so your speedo should still be good.

FYI - In the future if you ever go bigger...some of those web sites for tire size calculators can tell you speedometer differences to expect. Unless you jack your car up and make it a 4 x 4 with huge tires the speedometer wont change much. (Keep in mind when people go bigger wheels they also go lower profile rubber so actual tire rubber outside diameter doesn't change that dramatically)

I checked the tire size calculator and the diference at 60 mph made it 62.5 mph. I was just wondering if it was fixable or not, thanks for the help.

I'm surprised it's that much of a difference. Stock tires were 225/50/16.
1) The stock speedometers on any car are not totally accurate so a few mph difference is not a big deal.
2) I don't know how to change or adjust a speedometer but I can tell you from experience changing the speedometer or the cable to the dash is a huge pain in the butt.
3) Drive 50, 60, 70... mph next to a few friends on your cell phones and compare speedometer readings.
4) Make a mental note of the results and use that information accordingly.

And remember...if you have NO FEAR...you're not driving fast enough.:)

Good and inexpenisve brands?

Does anyone know of any inexpensive brands on wheels and tires that I could find for a 1988' Supra Turbo MKIII?

I have stock rims with Goodyear Eagles that were on the car when I got it. I want to replace them with Falkens or Toyos. And maybe get some 16 or 17 inch rims.

87mk111 05-04-2009 06:15 PM

I kust got a set of 18 inch Exels with kumho exctas on 'em. http://www.toyota-supra.info/forums/...ons/icon10.gif

TurboSupera 05-04-2009 07:09 PM

I just got a set of used MKIV. 16 x 8 in the front and 16 x 9 in the rear. The fronts came with 225/50 which needs to be replaced. I think I'll stick with 225/50 just need to decide on the tire. The rears came with 245/45 and are still o.k. They're on Yokohama es100 I believe. In the future I want to go with 255/50s in the rear.

tangsuto 09-05-2009 01:04 AM

I had a question about the tires and wheels combinations. From this thread I can see that there are a lot of different combos that people are running. However, I wanted to know about the pros and cons of having different types and sizes of wheels and tires.

I am asking because I am going to invest in some new wheels and tires. I'm not rich or anything, but I do believe in getting quality especially for my car.

I live in New England which can have some crappy weather like a lot of snow and rain and more often than not crappy roads ridden with pot holes. I currently am running the toyota supra stock 16, 5 spoke star wheels on 225-60's all around.

1. I can't decide on whether to go with 17's all around or 18's all around.
2. I want a sportier look with thicker wheels and tires on the back and also possibly thickening the front.

As of right now I am looking at 17's all around with 235's on the front and 255's on the front. I wanted to know if this was a good idea and what width wheels to go with. Will the wheels fit with the car and look good? Will the 17's be able to take a little more road abuse compared with the 18's?

The car is also my daily driver so it has to be able to drive all weather. All input and help is greatly appreciated.

*D-Joker* 09-07-2009 02:00 AM

i am gettin a set of mk4 supra 16x8" rims
and ive already got the rubber...im runnin bridgestone- potenza RE001's 16 x 235 x 45's

tangsuto.
i would suggest that you go 17's, and maybe go a lil thinner on the bak for a coupl of reasons. first im not sure if the 255's on the bak will fit without rubbing (cause im guessing you will b lowering it aswell lol). and also wouldnt cars grip better in snow if they hav less tyre on the road? im not sure cause it doesnt snow where im located in australia, but if it contains conditions like wet weather than you need thinner tyres to dicipate it quicker from under the tyres.
and i reckon 17's because like you said, your streets are riddled with pot-holes, so a smaller rim with a larger tyre wall diameter will b better, so it can take the more of the impact of the pot-holes and that way you dont let the rim take as much of an impact, so less risk of rim damage.

...and when you go to the tyre shop...discuss with them what type of tyres...my bridgestones are really good tyres, but they are mainly stronger in dry conditions, so you mite need to look for tyres that grip better in wet conditions rather than dry

well thats my suggestion, and i hope ive been of some help 2 u.

tangsuto 09-08-2009 04:41 PM

Thanks for the reply Joker. The detail of your answer was really great and helped a lot. I think from what you have suggested and from talking with others that I am going to go with 17x8's all around.

Should I run 235's all around or run 225's on the front with 235's on the rear?

Is there any added handling from having a little wider on the back and thinner on the front with tires?

Will the 17x8's work without rubbing the car without any modification to the car itself?

*D-Joker* 09-08-2009 11:07 PM

thats cool man...only to glad to help :) good to hear your goin 17's...

and in my opinion there isnt any gain when making the back rubber larger.
when you look at it, race cars like the v8 supercars (australian racing thing...dont know if you know about them over there lol) anyways they are curcuit racing cars and they have the same tyre width all round...
...so in my own personal preference i like running the same width tyres all round. large bak rubber is really only helpful when drag racing haha
but i do suggest whatever you do (because even 225's arent a thin tyre lol) look for a good wet whether tyre, i would worry bout finding a tyre that will dicipate water and snow quicker, rather than something better in dry conditions, so you might lose a bit of all round performance when you get the occasional dry day lol, but it will be much safer and more grippy in your more usual "damp" conditions :bigthumb:

and i just got my supra a coupl of weeks ago...so if yours sits as high as mine (standard hieght)... then i highly doubt that there will b any rubbing at all even though the standard suspension is very soft hahaha...

Krem 09-23-2009 02:10 AM

got a new (to me) mk3 that came with Riken Raptor 225/45r16z's wrapped around stock wheels.. got lucky I still have that setup since I fronts had to be replaced while the rears were still new (maybe 10k on em). Moved rears up, put new ones on the back. Lucky part is the discount tire I went to only had Riken Raptor's for available 16" z rated tires.. got two of the last four. :ghey:

tangsuto 10-27-2009 07:50 PM

I posted in this thread before asking what size wheels and tires to buy. Now I have a different but very related question to ask you guys. I am looking at getting 17x8 wheels all around and I have been searching online for what wheels to buy (brand and design and color) that is of good performance and durability. In essence, best bang for your buck.

I have been looking for more conservative styles like alone the lines of 5-star in like a dark gray or gunmetal.

Any suggestions as to what brands and where to shop for them?

87SupraFreak 11-04-2009 11:35 PM

I'm running 225/18/40 in the front and 255/18/40 in the rear with no rubbing. Any rubbing will depend on your offset. Ill post some pics this evening as I think my set up looks good :) I do get a bit of over steering though which I don't like. Does anyone know why that is? I hear it's due to the extra meat on the rear from staggering the wheels.

cre 11-05-2009 02:15 AM

Rubbing is dependent on: offset, camber, ride height, suspension travel and tire width.

corrosivecopper 11-07-2009 07:24 PM

I've got Konig 18"x 8" rims with Vanderbuilt Sonor rubber, 225/45R18 in the front and for now 245/45R18 in the back. Nice rims with a combo of black surround with polished look 5-spoke. The tires were pretty inexpensive, but have a sweet tread pattern and good quality rubber. Got a matching set of black splined lug nuts too. Test fit on the car to make sure they're good (which they are), but they actually haven't seen the road yet, still brand new. I've got some engine problems to take care of first lol. If anyone's interested, I may be willing to sell them.. could take me some time before the engine is settled, and they deserve to be on a vehicle.

supranutz 12-04-2009 02:57 AM

im rollin on stock wheels and bridgestone potenza runflats 225/50/16 i manage a wheel and tire shop and can have any wheel and tire i want for cost but i got the bridgestones used for free 80%tread the money i saved i think ill use to send my factories out and have them reconditioned to look new again and keep them, i like the stock look

TripleC 12-04-2009 08:53 PM

Tire Sizes

just wondering what size of tire and rim comes "stock" with mark 3's?
what people here would recommend, and will 18 inch rims hold a 260/60??

cre 01-05-2010 02:28 AM

First sticky in the forum is for tire fitment. http://www.toyota-supra.info/forums/...t-q-and-a.html

I believe the stock "sawblades are 32 offset and the later model 5-spoke are 35.... I might have that backward, but the difference is minimal. stock rim size is 16" x 7".

What the 18" rim will fit depends on the width, not the diameter. I *think* you'd want around 8.5" or 9" wide, but it also depends on the desired profile.

There are more knowledgeable people here when it comes to tires, hopefully they'll chime in.

I'm merging this thread with the fitment sticky.
