It's known as the "SOGI mod". If you want short and don't mind sacrificing leverage, have at it. Generally it makes for a notchier shifting experience. If you've ever driven with a real short throw shifter you will not be impressed. I'm not fond of the stock shifter's height, but this mod isn't where it's at, IMO.
