Post Gremlins!!! Please help.

You know, I used to think that the all digital dash thing was cool. Here's a problem for anyone who would like to know.

Well first, let me tell you a little about the car. She's my "Rolling Project." A couple months ago I got an 82 L-type with a 5mge dropped in about 8 years ago. I paid $300 bucks for her from a guy on craigslist. She was a steal at the price, even with a blown starter, a chip in the windshield and the gremlins (which they informed me of before the purchase). One of the things that happens is that while driving the instrument readouts will change. Usually from Mph to Km/h. I just filled the tank and after hitting a bump on the freeway, it reads empty. Also, sometimes the Tach, Gas, Temp. and now Speed gauge will sometimes just blink out. Usually, I can just turn the car off and then on at a stoplight, or something and I'm fine. I'm just wondering if this could lead to real trouble, real soon.

My guess is that the wiring harness may be loose, or just needs to be replaced. Does this sound about right? And is this a doable repair for a non-mechanic? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I'll be checking cygnus until I hear something.

Thanx to anybody who read this.

Smile Just a sounding board!

I had a problem like that too...only my spedo would just conk out for a couple miles, then it would read correctly again. It is more than likely a connector that is loose, if it just happens every once in a while, but since you said that it fixes itself when you restart the car, I would think it is something with the ECU.

I don't know much about the wireing on Supra's, but common sense can usually lead you to some troubleshooting.

Our Supra’s, which art in the driveway,
Hollowed be thy power, thy mods are great, thy speed endless,
On the road or at the track. Give us this day free of cops,
And forgive us our impound charges, as we forgive those who are slow.
And lead us not into speed traps, and deliver us from the interceptors,
For thine is our car, the power, and the glory…forever and ever….amen.

Thanks. It's good to hear my car's not gonna start spitting bolts through the AC vents or something. Sounds far fetched, but if you hung out with me... You'd see.
