ways to find out if your turbo is gone...

under boost you can hear it whistling quite loudly
under deceleration or at idle your car has blue smoke coming out the exhaust

sometimes the turbo can be a quiet one and not really show these signs of dying... the other thing i've noticed if it is going to die quietly is boost is lower than normal

automatic 7mgte supras that have around the 100,000km on the clock usually boost about 5.8psi sometimes higher max usually bout 6.2psi
manual 7mgte supras i've found usually boost about 6.8-7psi

if none of these apply maybe you have a boost leak that is causing boost problems...
if you have a minor boost leak this can cause you car to start dropping off max boost
say you are running 7psi, once you hit 7psi it immediately starts dropping off slowly, this can be a leak

under boost you can hear air blowing but at idle the car runs fine... check the turbo outlet pipe, this may have a split in it
you find that your car feels like it hits a brick wall all of a sudden (fuel cut) if you are running factory boost and hitting fuel cut it is most likely you have a major leak, check intercooler.. intercooler plumbing.. generally fuel cut will not happen till between 11-13psi

and that's all i have to add to that
anyone else ;)

Either that or you notice a lot of leaks around the turbo and you are going through a lot of oil hehehe.

another way to find out if your turbo is dead is to try and wiggle the shaft around.......if it moves from one side of the housing to other really loosely you've probably broken a shaft :P :P

.....I know this from personal experience as I have managed to pop quite a few so far <_<

hi all 1st post
turbos in general seem to give the singing noise assosiated with finns scuffing housing. Short term usual + common to see play but scuffing certainly dead.by then yes it will pick up oil through into intake . :( engines dont always allow debris through them ive noticed :P
