picked up a 87 non turbo supra last fri (GOT PICS NOW)

hey everyone,

just got the 87 non turbo a few days ago and it was sold to me as a non running car with a few missing parts. i bought this car off of craigslist and the post said it didnt have a radiator and that the distriburor was bad. i paid 550 + 50 for him to deliver it to my house. when he called, he told me that yhe car had no intake piping and that it would start for a second but it wouldent stay running. so when he left the first thig i did was put something in the vane air flow sensor (not sure if called this)to hold it open started it up and it stayed running! i was so excited, i figured finding a dist wouldnt be easy or cheap but that wasnt the problem any way. i did find that the coil wire was shot, the side that goes into the coil pretty much disinigrated. so i orderd up a new wire from the dealer and have to order my radiator today and will have it running when the parts arive in a few days.

i will take pics of it today or tomorrow and put them up, i will post pics of my other wheels as well.

Welcome to the site. Parts can get a little expensive and btw read the head gasket problem thread in the faqs section. Good luck.

got some pics

supposedly the engine was rebuilt 15k ago but who knows. it also has a magnaflow cat-back exhaust.

i used to work at a toyota dealer and i stoped by and had a used car tech i know that has a 82 supra stop by and look at it and i asked if i should be concerned about the head gasket. he said the engine was origionaly designed to have a asbestos head gasket, and the head torqued down to 75 foot/lb. he said something about just re-torquing the bolts to 90 foot/lb but i dont remember if that was with a new gasket or not.

the head should be torqued according to the specs of the hardware, but the head is under torqued from the factory at like 56 ft/lb, it should be atleast above 70, and alot of people go higher.

Whoooohoooo

GOT IT RUNNING TODAY!!!! dealer called at 3pm or so went there got the radiator and the new coil wire. came home cut the grass and worked on it, got the radiator in and filled and the new coil wire installed and went to start it and it dosent want to run well. so i figure its the timing, i go and mess with it for a little wile and i am guessing that if was all advanced so it ran of but when you hit the gas it supdders and dies. adjusted it and it runs and drives good after letting the cooling system bubble out. just have to take it to some people i know at my toyota dealer and get the hook up on a little work to get it runing great.

The car looks good body wise, the only thing that sucks is the misscolored paint i asume it was in an accident cause of the new door and finder, nice straight looking body tho, and i like the mismatched interior lol, sept for the missmatch the interior looks good as well. nice find.

i dont know the history with the car but i am assuming that is was in a accident but dont know for sure. the center console was painted red by the coworker of the person i got it from, he bought it from him and held on to it for a bit before i got it. the front of the cars is in good shape but the back of the car is rusty around the wheel wells. there is a hole in the metal under the das door but not too bad for a 20 year old car. i should be getting new tail lights to replace the ones on the car that were spray painted red.
