My new toy!

Well, I just bought a 95 eagle talon tsi awd, for about 2 days, And it died. Started making some clicking noises, Then it just wouldnt start. I learned later that this is crankwalk, The crank moves in the block and it was making the crank sensor hit the cover, that was the clicking, and then it just broke altogeher. So i took it back to the used car place(via a rope), And they gave me a deal on this sweet 2002 mr2 spyder! lol. Luckily i spent the extra 12$ a month on the 12 month warranty, which was basically free cause i didnt make a payment yet, and they transferred my 2k down. I already love the mr2 and i havent even owned the car for 24 hours yet. It has 40k miles on it and so far is a blast to drive...Most fun ive ever had in a car. This is my daily driver because im going back to college and work, And my supra blew its head gasket (sigh). I am going to enjoy the 30 ish mpg tho...lol. Ill post pics tommorow!

P.S. - Needless to say, I dont like DSM cars anymore.

thats awesome.

Isphius 09-12-2006 09:32 PM

Thanks. This has to be the most fun car ive ever driven, From a list of about 65 cars, ranging from dump trucks to an 02 camaro SS...It doesnt have the sheer horsepower, and it doesnt handle like an F1 car, But its just great fun to drive around lol. It is pretty dam fast too. Its basically just a backwards corolla with a chopped down body and 2 seats. lol. The only thing i really plan to do is change the intake and exhaust because they seem really restrictive, Both by looking at them and by the drop off of power the car has after 5500 rpms, And the tach redline is 7500, seems kinda pointless haha. someone donate me a turbo kit! lol.

Supra2NR 09-12-2006 10:44 PM

one more good thing about that car :

every body panel is a bolt on affair
so no mouldings required
even a widebody kit

supra90turbo 09-13-2006 12:54 AM

Nice reliable transportation isphius.

I don't like the "bodykit" thing stuck all over it, it's hideous.
I can't own another car. If I had that car, I'd have a 2ZZ-GE-T swap planned, coilovers, wheels, Cusco roll cage, etc...

I'd have to de-chick-ify the car though... they're just chick cars in my eyes. Same with ZZT231 Celicas and Miatas. Nothing a little work can't change though.

Isphius 09-13-2006 05:05 AM

Yes, im looking around for the stock 03+ front bumper and the 00-02 rear bumper. I think the sides are just bolted over the existing sides so ill look. Its a well done body kit, its all in factory holes and mounts. So should be no problem to take off. And its all urethane instead of fiberglass so it doesnt break when it hits shot haha. The thing i like most tho is i can get to my school and back and not burn 2 gallons of gas. lol.

Supra2NR 09-13-2006 07:54 AM

how much does the mr2 weigh? about what 2000 lbs? maybe less?
and how much horses does it pack?

Isphius 09-13-2006 02:27 PM

138 hp, 2150 lbs about. Its a quick car. Not amazingly fast, but it goes! Its like 10% faster than my n/a 5 speed was.

Isphius 09-18-2006 06:25 AM

Ok well so far the only plans/mods are as follows -

1. Convert back to stock bumpers. take off side skirts. Keep the $400 trd foglights

2. HIDs, If i can find a conversion kit. I love the way they light the road, And i need the bright lights to stop people from backing into to me or something bad like that. But i mostly just like how they look

3. Team moon dual exhaust, I love the sound and its the cheapest catback ive seen so far

4. Intake making use of the driver side vent incoming air and ebay pod filter and adapter

5. Stereo. New headunit, new speakers, And im gona fit 2 8 inch subs in the cubby hole storage behind the seats

6. And in the future wider tires and stiffer shocks. It handles GREAT but rolls a bit too much, and it really feels like its chewing up the outside tires in turns.

i say jus stick with it, its polyurathen, means it can take a beating lol
no point of spending money right now jus to go back to stock

i never knew they made 8 inch subs, those must be sum real cute looking ones lol

how wide are you talking about in here? cuz if youre going for the best setup
i've seen em, they had to use the widebodykit,
this would be the perfect time for you to replace that bodykit that you have already

Isphius 09-18-2006 08:19 AM

I want to change it cause i dont like it, Plus i can just sell someone the body kit and have him give me his stock bumpers when hes done. Ill take a core charge haha. I want to put like 17x7s on, with 225s all around or so. Not much bigger (stock is 185 front 205 rear). And yes, 8 inch subs are the ones in bazooka tubes (the amp/sub in one things). They sound good, tight response and all cause there smaller, just less total bass, but i dont want a lot anyway, just more than the 6.5s can make.

Supra2NR 09-19-2006 03:10 AM

kinda gave me a good idea there, thanx

cuz i was thinking of putting a custom layout in between the space by the back of the backseat ,in the middle of the rear suspension , but even the 10's were a little too big

and i dunt really want anything that heavy,
im desperate to get the car on a diet

how many pounds each are the 8 inch subs?

Isphius 09-19-2006 05:44 AM

Ive also got an appointment to race an n/a 300zx 5 speed. Should be some fun haha.

Supra2NR 09-20-2006 12:17 AM

you got a turbo right?

depends i guess on that the other guys has,

but i raced a 93 2-seater 300zx n/a
and i got him by a car with my 88 n/a

Isphius 09-23-2006 12:32 AM

Im racing him in my mr2. And if you beat him, this car is faster than my mk3 n/a was.

Supra2NR 09-23-2006 12:38 AM

you hav an lightcar, hopefully he doesnt have that much mods, and you will take him with no problems

cuz the zx that i raced somewhat got me off the line cuz i spinned too much
but i caught up slowly and ended up a car ahead of him

Isphius 09-23-2006 12:41 AM

And i figured id post a kinda shortened review for everyone. here it goes

Outside - I love the way the car looks. Everyone gives me stares and the "nice car" face of the smiling nodding kinda thing, Like when you get straight As and show your parents. And every girl will either look at it lol. And I like the car asthetically, Or I wouldnt buy it.

Inside - I love the cockpit. Everything is intelligently placed, And easy to find without having to glance after you touch it a few times. Unlike the supra, where the window buttons are hard to reach and all the CC buttons are real close together. I like the gauges too, Not too many, But enough to tell you whats going on. Its got a temp and gas gauge small, Large tach, Almost as big speedo. And it has idiot lights for everything else. Very nice layut inside. I also love the wheel and shifter. There both in perfect places and feel perfect for the car

Drive - Ride is kinda bouncy, But not bad. It handles AMAZING. Esepcially compared to my supra with beat shocks. The engine has a good powerband, But could use a few more CCs. You can kinda tell its a little tiny motor still. It has plenty of power to get up and go, Especially in 1st and 2nd gear. And torque is awesome for a 4 cyl. You can just put arounf at 1500 rpms all day. The clutch is my only complaint. It is getting changed soon. It doesnt have enough grab for what im used to, Its kinda soft and squish under power, Which makes me affraid to really launch it because it slips too much. The car wont even spin wheels on dry road because of the soft clutch and the motor being in the back. Overall, very fun car to drive. I have to get a g-tech pro and see what kinda cornering Gs it can do, It has to be at least .98 or maybe even higher. I was reading a magazine where they changed to 17s and TRD suspension and pulled 1.01G. Not bad at all for how small and rear biased the car is.

newbsupra 09-23-2006 10:05 PM

i raced a an older 300zx, was and 86 or 87, with my 87 supra and whooped him by a good 2 car lengths and i didnt rev it past 4500. im sure i could take one of the newer n/a 300zx's

Isphius 10-30-2006 06:41 AM

Yeah, There not as fast as everyone thinks lol. And anyway, Heres a video for anyone who cares...got to 60 in about 6.9 secs, 70 in 7.5. Count in the video if you want. Just before 2nd gear is 60. And that little squirt in 3rd was 70. Could have been faster if not for the sand. But I think the tires slipping a little may have helped if it didnt get from like 0-5 so slow. It felt faster when the tires were only spinning a little after that tho. Which mean i have to practice doing that on purpose!
