Can't say about the 1G on the subject of oil...
Can't say about the 1G on the subject of oil leaks, just don't know enough about that engine. The valve covers are the obvious place to start checking, as well as the front and rear main seals.

The 86.5 had the 7MGE N/A 3.0 straight-six engine. Starting in 1987 you could get them with either the same 7MGE N/A 3.0 or the 7M-GTE turbocharged 3.0.

The charcoal canister is part of your emissions control system, and it helps maintain a slight amount of pressure (2 lbs iirc) in your gas tank which assists your fuel pump. I wouldn't remove it any...
