the gunk may also be holding other parts...

the gunk may also be holding other parts together. when you flush the system it thins out all of the parts. out of personal experience i havent found a flush to be good to an engine that you've...

i'd stay away from the flush and run sae 40 or...

i'd stay away from the flush and run sae 40 or sae 50. if it quiets the noise, you've got bad lifters. if it doesnt, you may have a con rod bearing about to go..

1.&2.the tapping noise may possibly be the lifters inside the engine. as you rev it, more oil pressure may quiet them-which is not good. they should be quiet all the time.
