I checked with the fellow who sold the 2.4L turbo motor and the gearbox to me. He now vaguely remembers that he had switched out the bell housings. He thinks that I do have a Jeep Liberty bell...

No, I think you misunderstand. The bell housing I have on my transmission mates perfectly to the Chrysler 2.4L engine that I will use. All I need to do is make a backplate for the block but the holes...

You are amazing! Thanks so much. You are helping to unravel a mystery. I bought this rebuilt Supra transmission from a fellow who was going to match it up with a 2.4L turbo 4 cylinder engine...

Okay, here are two bell housing (internal) images. Note no access openings in the side of the casing. Sorry the fork didn't come with it.
Also note the offset in the bottom of the bell housing...
