well not really but does anyone know what is legal to have modified in california?

i'm trying to figure out what i can keep on my car with out having to change it every 2 years to get smoged

Mod parts for the engine must be CARB (Cal. Air Resource Board) approved. Depends on the smog tech if he looks, or cares.

Actually, headlights (bulbs) and all light bulbs must be DOT (Dept. Of Transportaion) approved for the highway.

ie: Those 'Blue' headlight bulbs have NOT been approved yet to replace the factory spec bulbs. So a bored cop can ticket you.

and if so does anyone know a place where i can get my car smoged? with a nice smog man in sothern california mainly in orange county?

that must suck california is that stict how is anybody supposed to get fast cars if your not allowed to do anything to them lol

We get smogged every 2 years in CT also.

You have to move to some hick state like Iowa or somewhere where they all drive pickup trucks and use chewing tobacco. Those are the places where there are no emission laws.

not all of us drive pickups and i dont chew tobacco, and how come we dont have it either, well at least for my car

I think all of those items are legal. They look for stuff UNDER the hood. Cold air intakes that look aftermarket is something they will deffinately look at.

EGR is a must. All vacuum lines in place, and not plugged.

If you change things, try to make it look really good, like for a car show. Cap off unused vacuum ports, no loose wire connectors, hoses etc.

A GOOD smog tech will know what he's looking at/for. A lazy or stupid one won't.

It's a $10k fine for the shop if the tech gets caught cheating.
The CARB does undercover sting operations everyday, somewhere in the state.
