Ok still wont start timing is now correct paid a mechanic to set it Discovered my oil pressure gauge isnt reading and its not the gauge how do i check/correct this??

suprra_girl 06-09-2005 08:52 AM

ok... we'll keep to one thread now eh ;)

first off... when did this start.. (the not starting thing)
is there anything you changed or did, oil change, plugs etc

list everything you have checked/tried/diagnosed to get this going

oil pressure gauge not reading at all... maybe the plug has come off the oil pressure sender unit
is yours turbo? i can't remember..

KingDiamond 06-09-2005 05:56 PM

yeah she might be thinking there is something wrong because the gauge is reading low. And everything she has done will definately help.

Tis not a turbo and no its not reading low it doesnt read at all i replaced the head gasket technically ive never heard the car run i bought it with a blown head gasket but it ran shortly before i bought it

is the timing belt setup properly?

jza80 Supra C-I TT 06-10-2005 12:12 AM

i'm just about confused about every thread here... what does a timing belt do?

KingDiamond 06-10-2005 07:06 PM

well your engine needs the timing belt to be setup correctly so that the valves open and close at the right time. if your timing belt is off, and your exhaust valves are open during the compression stroke, your not gonna build any compression. You would have had to take the timing belt off to remove the head to do the headgasket. If you have a manual it will show you wheer the marks on your cam gears should be sitting for proper timing belt installation, and your crank should be at 0 degress top dead center(someone can correct me if i am wrong on that one). Does the engine sound like its cranking real fast, or does it sound like its cranking improperly at all, or does it sound normal?

here is how i set the timing :

i pull spark plug number one and slide a long chop stick down into the cylinder then i turn it over by hand watching the stick go up and down (jesus make sure the stick is long enough ). when it's at the top i check the timing marks and adjust for 0 .then i adjust the cams so the notches on both are at 12 oclock . bolt in the cam sensor or the distrib and guestamate the position for it .
just setting the timing isn't good enough you will most likely need to adjust the distrib and you may need to twist it one way or the other to get it just right if it won't start . it's crucial that the distrib or sensor is place into the block at just the right angle
i'll point you again to the page suprra_girl pointed you at . this is for installing the distrib
http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/library/TSRM...M/ig/IG_19.html
step b is what you need to get right . even with the timing set correctly you could spin it over all day and get nothing without this distrib being in right
so once you set the timing ..the timing is set . it doesn't change if you try again tomorrow .
you need to try and twist your cap/distrib a little and turn it over , no dice try another twist same direction but a little further , still nothing try the other direction

worry about an oil gauge after you get it started

what is compression, headgasket, and what happens when u crank something. also when u are driving automatic what is different from manual. i'm talking technical. is there more parts?

87SupraChick 06-13-2005 11:14 AM

Nope timing is correct had a mechanic come out and double check it he was stumped to we ran advanced diagnostic on it and got about 12 codeds saying various circuits were open but no trouble codes were actually stored were thinking ECU All t he fuses and relays are good ive replaced most everything in the ignition system but my oil gauge wont even register but then again it hasnt started since i bought it with a blown head gasket but it ran before the gasket blew
