i use to have a 1987 325e as some of you know
now i got a 1986.5 Supra and the heat guage does not work. the radiator is shot (lower half the cooling fins have rotted out) i can only get the new radiator on thursday, so i flushed out the old one and put it back in, took out the thermostat. i ran it and the top hose is hot as hell and the bottom hose is almost as hot. what should i do? ADN HOW do i fix the heat guage or put in an aftermarket one??? ps i dont know where the coolant temp sensor is. please help this car is my ride to school, so i got to fix her fast and get that heat guage workin now so i can monitor the engine, i got 2 eyes one for oil psi and one for heat. |
i would suggest you get a new thermostat and install it.... with no thermostat the water is not staying in the radiator very long and getting a chance to cool... so effectively all you are doing is constantly running hot water thru your engine
the dash temp sensor is located on the side of the thermostat housing and has a spade terminal connection i believe it is the bottom most sensor which is inside the power steering bracket, not the plug that is two pin and usually green, it's the one above that, make sure the terminal is on properly or even on at all let us know how you get on |
today i had to take my supra to work it is about 10minutes drive in trafic, the car got very hot, i could not touch the valve cover because it was so hot (is that normal on supras?)
and the overflow tank was filled and spraing out on the street. and i looked for the temp sensot by the p/s bracket but i did not see it (i have a 7M-GE). wheni drve her for even a few blocks i have coolant leaking down the block, looks like it is coming from the water pump gascket. if you could send me a pic of where is the sensor. i am getting a new radiator on thursday, so i gues no driving till thursday. |
