Tire pressure?
 

hey just curious a lil about how your guys' tire pressure is, not that it pertains to supras alone but after i took it to oil change/car wash people they check the pressure and they put them all to 36-37psi... which i find fine for my front tires.. but i have dif size tires on the rear.. i usually base my tire pressure on or a lil before the max psi for the tire, is this wrong... cause the max on my rears is 51psi and they had at 36psi, when i usually keep at 47-50... cause i like to get less traction at times if you know what i mean :D..i know the more tire that touches the better traction.. but i was getting fine traction the way i had it... any who, i was just seeing what errrrybody else was doing. thanks for any input.

Too much, or too less, pressure will result into an uneven wearing of the tire and it will probably reduce it's life by a little... here is something they thaught me at my job:

Under-inflation

If your vehicle's tires are under inflated by only 6 psi it could lead to tire failure. Additionally, the tire's tread life could be reduced by as much as 25%. Lower inflation pressure will allow the tire to deflect (bend) more as it rolls. This will build up internal heat, increase rolling resistance and cause a reduction in fuel economy of up to 5%. You would find a significant loss of steering precision and cornering stability. While 6 psi doesn't seem excessively low, remember, it usually represents about 20% of the tire's recommended pressure.

Over-inflation

If your tires are over inflated by 6 psi, they could be damaged more easily when running over pot holes or debris in the road. Higher inflated tires cannot isolate road irregularities well causing them to ride harsher. However, higher inflation pressures usually provide an improvement in steering response and cornering stability up to a point. This is why participants who use street tires in autocrosses, track events and road races, run higher than normal inflation pressures.

MK3 supra tires should have 28psi in them when they are cold. Front and rear.

for the stock ones maybe..... 28 would be way to low for the tires i have on here now. the max on the ones i have now is 44 front and 51 rear, so i figure i goto the max i cant be doing wrong right?

another note on what tires i have... 205/50R16 on the fronts that state 44psi max and 225/50ZR16 on rears that state 51psi max. so the side walls on my rears are larger.. and thats just cause dont ask me why.. so i guess my main question is how do the max psi ratings of tire pertain to everyday driving when not with max load and all that jazz.. well thanks for any replys.

28 is too low. That's a sedan's "comfortable" mushy ride PSI.

Most performance tire's pressure for our sizes are max'd at between 44psi & 51 psi.

I run 36psi for good handle and tire wear, yet have a little 'give' for the crappy streets of America.

Well its good to know that they are actually training their employees. I've talked to many oil changers at the quicky places that don't get any training whatsoever.
