type R vs. non type R

Im lookin to buy a supra, i found a shop with about 4 of them all in the great condition but what im interested in is the 90-91 twin turbo. there is a 1990 2.5 1JZ GTE twin turbo and a 1990 2.5 1JZ GTE twin turbo R.
i looked at the spec sheets on this site and i couldnt find any difference in weight, torque,HP anything obvious...anyone know what this R stands for. both are from japan which is obvious cause both are 2.5 L.

lol

:stupid:i found the answer the twin turbo R comes with black and grey recaro seat..i think this indicates the engine is equiped with VVT-i:dunno:

Go for the twin turbo r. Much nicer interior, nicer steering wheel, better suspension, and they are more rare than the regular ones. I've been looking to import one into Florida.

yeah i told the guy not to inspect it or get it ready for veiwing until i i can get him about 12 k ...lol you shoulda seen the lil guys eyes snap open he said ok den you coma here wiff tweaf tousan darwa inden i inspect sa caw inden geyit weady fo you. its got strut bar, nardi steering wheel, sard intake, cusco coilovers, stainless wire braid brake hose and timing belt was done at 86000km and its at 114 000now. when i get it im gunna do the head gasket right away im thinkin of getting the head machined a wee bit and a thin head gasket on there.. increase the comp ratio a wee bit..yall know if this is a safe thing to do?

dcrusupra 06-08-2007 05:30 AM

No need to swap the headgasket on the 1jz. It already comes with a metal one. But if you wanted to raise the compression, you could do that.

redneck ricer 06-08-2007 05:33 AM

any word on how much to machine the head i mean compression =power but i dont want interference issues goin on

suprra_girl 06-11-2007 12:08 PM

and just for an addition to this thread

it is a TURBO R not a type r
it ain't a honduh k ;)

Turbo R's come with recaro interior, no abs, no tems, bilstein suspension, torsen differential & paint "dark green mica" is unique to the turbo r.

that's all i can think of right now ;)

Go for the single turbo if your trying to push max HP, otherwise the twin-turbo has very little to no turbo lag, beneficial if your just pushing it stock. Mostly all supra's push better HP out of a single big turbo as opposed to a twin-turbo system. Really depends on what you want to use it for.

ok first if your gona drag race it rip everything out. i did that in mine and it does have a remarkable difference in weight. and second get a new hood i recomend cf (carbon fiber) some people will make fun of you but the carbon fiber hood will drop like 50 pounds easy i dont really know how much the hood eighs but i fill a great deal of gain in start off when i dont have my hood on there. second i would get a aeromotive fuel pressure regulator its a great way to make your own pressure. walboro feul pump for the injectors that you will buy. 750 cc injectors upgrade the turbo. (but the ct26 is a great turbo and will hold a great deal. (but thats the 7mgte) if you do go with a 7mgte toyota came from the factory with a stock boost controller its not digital its manual but not many people know about it. on the wastegate on the turbo is a screw you can adjust it and it will raise the boost. (.7 psi) with every full 360 degree turn. and just those parts will be about 8 to 900 bucks but you will notice a great power increase and better times.
