Hello Im new around here and am looking at getting an 86 Supra for a good deal however I dont think they came turbo that year. Is it possible (as in been done successfully) to add a turbo? Is there a kit that someone offers to bolt in? Im also looking for some parts and sites that have good parts for the car. If turbo is not an option what other avenues can I take? Thanks for all your help.

there are two options for turbocharging your car

you can do the na/t conversion which utilises the n/a block or you can swap in a whole gte motor

by doing the na/t conversion you can keep the stock vvti (not actually our one but same thing) so you have the turbocharger + vvti which i imagine could be a whole lotta fun

by doing the 7mgte swap you will need a complete motor, wiring loom (the wiring loom you get will need to suit the year motor you are getting.. 87-88 yellow plug, 89-92 grey plug... make sure the loom and ecu are from the same colour
also if you get an engine that is earlier or later than the ecu and wiring loom you have you will find a few of the sensors will have slightly different plugs like the ecu temp sensor and possibly cold start sensor from memory... it might be easier to guarantee your swap that you get a whole conversion from one car

Thanks alot for the info Supra Girl. The NA to Turbo swap sounds like the way I will go. I know the V6s have a good amount of power NA so maybe a rebuild with some good rods and pistons and some headwork will make for a good turbo ready motor. I will start doing my homework and hopefully I will be able to answer some questions too. I have always loved the Supra (all years) and hopefully finally to be able to get one. Im looking at it today. Anything to watch out for maybe? Thanks for the welcomes too!

dude all you need is a JZA70 front cut and everything will bolt over..not that hard. Everything is in the same place so it is quite an easy conversion..not to hard at all.. Like putting a 4AGE into a 4AC powered sprinter
