Well, absolutely nobody seems to want to tackle my idle adjustment problems so I have been bustin my but trying to figure out what is wrong. For more info read "Please Help!" I did a diagnostic (E1 to TE1) and got this flash: 5 then 1, so code 51. This told me either it was the AC switch or the throttle sensor. My guess is throttle sensor. What can be done about it besides just replacing it? Can they be adjusted? Any help would be appreciated if someone can please answer my posts. I don't think they are that "stupid" that they should be ignored.

No definitely not stupid. Actually pretty intelligent, all that talk about the dashpot, I doubt even a handful of people even know what it is let alone where it is.

As far as the TPS, in my opinion you are better off just replacing it. It is technically adjustable because the bolt holes in the sensor are eccentric (oval) like the hold down for the distributor or cam sensor.

You have been messing with the idle screw correct? Well that might be throwing off the TPS by having the idle turned up. I don't know but its worth a shot replacing it.

It was getting lonely flailing around by myself. Is this item expensive? It looks it. Now that I've messed with the idle screw, is that going to make things real difficult to get back to normal (in other words, should I maybe take it to my mechanic?) Thanks.

Well, I noticed the oval holes for the TPS screws and saw that my bottom one was all the way to the left. I loosened both screws and got them centered and tightened. When I ran the diagnostic again the check engine light stayed on steady. I assume the TPS is now in the right position. I also was idling at about 800. Trouble is, the idle changes according to driving conditions. Is this normal? Also seems to change in correlation to engine temperature. Well, I have it staying between 700 and 1,000. Am I worrying about nothing here? I'm one of those anal retentive perfectionists and little things like this bother me. Other than this, the engine seems to run great. Can anyone put my mind at ease and tell me not to worry, or should I be trying to keep a steady idle at all times?

Bill, the AC hasn't worked since I bought the car, would that make a difference? I have tried hittin the switch on and off but did not notice much difference, though I'll try again.

The reasons I asked is if you switch the A/C on the revs normally increase by 200 which would be 1,000 at tick over. I was wondering if the A/C sensor switch on thermostate housing had got stuck. But as yours isn’t working I guess it's something else. Also by responding to your post, it keeps the thread on the front page of the forum. Did you receive the email I sent to you last week ?

Was that you with the very detailed info? Preciate that. You know what I would love to do Bill? Drive my Supra around some of the hairpin turns on the Isle of Wight. I spent 2 weeks there and loved every minute of it. A little off the beaten path for a Yank but one hell of an experience.
