cars from japan

have you ever imported a car from japan? whats your story? sites you used?

i am thinking about importing a car from japan and was wondering exactly how often its done

i havent but i know sumbody who did

he ordered a nissan skyline r34 from japan
here's what he had to do
about 70,000 for the car
close to 10,000 for shipping it over
then
sent the car to motorex
he had to convert it to left-hand drive
get it to pass emissions
paid about another 20,000
to get it legalized
and you know whats the kicker
law states you have to get rid of it within a year
since its doesnt follow emissions
and crash safety ratings here in america
thats when i found out, that car doesnt even have a 5mph bumper
and one accident and most lilely would be death

he ddnt care tho, he jus did it for bragging rights

money isnt an object for him,
what sux is the fact that he never let me drove it

the more i hear from people the less i want to import from japan

the whole point was to get a 1jz supra for a low price
i'm starting to thik a swap would be easier

tone loc 11-12-2006 07:37 PM

not really easy just less exspensive

Supra2NR 11-12-2006 07:54 PM

cuz i mean
it not really that hard to figure
swap vs a whole import

swap is basically local
you might import a few key parts and what not
but it will be a hell of a lot cheap than importing a whole car
