under-carriage cover

I have damaged the under-carriage / large cardboard like piece under the engine. (I don't know what else to call it) I wonder if anybody has any experience or advice as to if I can or should just take it off? Does it serve any purpose other than keeping depris and dirt from the engine? Any cooling effects? Aerodynamics?
I can remove and repair it but maybe it will run cooler without it?

It's mainly to keep road debris out of the engine. You can run with it off, it won't have issues besides getting a little dirtier, and if your car leaks fluids your garage floor will get more drips than normal.

Thanks Bill UK...I did see that post and got a chuckle...even replied to it myself sometime back...(high tech racing rope)

I guess I am not convinced about running with or without that under-cover. I suspect it may help force air into the intercooler. One way to find out. I'll take it off and run without it while I repair it with fiberglass.

Thank you too Murd. I'll let you guys know how my experiment turns out.

RE: Under Carriage Guard

I tacked mine back up with a screw here and a bolt there. Wherever I could get away with keepin it in place. I kinda like havin it cuz it keeps a lot of that road grime out of your engine compartment. I think it's worth the effort.
