Not sure what this is at the bottom of the hole, checked the parts catalogue the nearest I can see it being is a union for cylinder head. What does it do? as you can see its almost looks like a ball bearing. Location: inlet side of cylinder head at the very front. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b5...f/DSCF0410.jpg |
I believe it is a machining hole use during manufacture of the head. Thats why they plugged it off, as it is no longer needed.

Seams odd Mr Nickleye Toyota never blocked it off with a large grub screw like they did with the oil gallery at the front and rear of the block.

I suspect the hole that has a threaded plug in it had something threaded into it at the factory. Why else to spend $$$ threading it??
While the other hole was simply a drilled hole to access a galley, or tie in 2 passages. Machining blocks is a complicated affair. And then imagine an assembly line. So they have to do it as efficiently and quickly as possible. |
they probably threaded the oil galleries to make for easier cleaning of the galleries when taken to a reconditioner
