Another Intake Question

I have searched the FAQ's and other parts of the board so don't come down on me for askin' before lookin. I have an '89 N/A. I have done most of the repairs needed to keep a 17 yr old car running (plugs, wires, valve cover gaskets, water pump, clutch and clutch plate, alternator, belts, hoses, battery, etc). I was thinking of installing one of those K&N type intakes with the cone filter. All I see from the photos I've looked at is a stainless steel pipe with a cone filter. Where does the AFM plug into on such a set-up? I know you can't run without it, so it has to hook up somewhere. Do the intake kits come with something to connect to, or are there major mods you have to make? Can anyone give me some detailed info please?

Thanks,

Scruffboy

in think in the case of a new intake pipe you could just get some silicone joiners, intake - turbo and from the intake - afm then bump an adaptor on the front to connect the air filter

haven't really seen alot of N/A intake setups but that's about the best i can guess :)

The back side of the AFM facing the engine will accept a 3" hose if that's what you're asking.
You can connect a silicone coupler to that, then pipe to the throttle body.
On the intake filter side, you'll need an AFM adapter to clamp the filter to, then just make a small brace for the AFM to keep it from flopping around and you're all set.

Re: Intake

So I guess I can't have that clean, straight through pipe to the throttle body with a cone filter on the end? I have to jury rig everything through that afm boxy lookin thing. That su*ks. I think I'll keep it stock. But thanks for the answers.

those were the same feelings i got when i askd my intake question,
but dont feel so bad you can still make it look clean , and even giv it an aftermarket touch,

a lil bit of creativity is all you need, think outside the box

I looked on this site., but got lost. Could you be more specific? like exact web address to see parts for a 7mge.

Sweet

That looks like a really sweet set up. I'll have to look into that. Like MrNickleye said, do you have more detailed info?

Thanks,

My apologies.

Through further investigation, it seems as if it is not YET available, but that's just another reason to start saving your pennies.
Software will be released for the 7MGE for the MAFT-Pro.
MAFT-Pro has a starting price of $399, you'll need to buy some harnesses and sensors, but that's no big deal.
What's better? MAFT-Pro accepts speed density which means you can use a MAP sensor and do away with the AFM/MAF completely, getting an intake hose straight from filter -> throttle body with no interruptions.

399? jus for your intake?jus so you can have a straight pipe?

why not jus save up for other mods? ,maybe even put that money for a stand-alone system?
